I'm interested in debating if whether or not Judas and Pontius Pilate ended up in Hell. Despite being considered the most evil men in hisotry, since they were doing God's will in causing Christ to be crucified, surely they would in fact be looked on with favor by God and not condemned to Hell for eternity.
The traditional demise of Judas was either by hanging himself or more graphically, either falling in a field where “his guts burst out”, or becoming morbidly obese, and being run over by a chariot, so that “his guts burst out”.
Pilate’s end is even less clear. A functionary of Roman Emperor Tiberius, because of an incident, Pilate was recalled to Rome, shortly before Tiberius died. The Emperor Caligula took his place. Renowned as a dangerous tyrant, Caligula was also (wisely) quite paranoid, and was likely suspicious of the timing of his return. Caligula either ordered him to commit suicide or into exile, where he committed suicide on his own.
Judas? given the report of his death, i would be shocked.
scripture says (matt 18:7) “Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!”
but, my main disagreement, FRiend, is your statement that they were “doing God’s will.”
in my opinion, they weren’t doing God’s will, they were doing their own, which God allowed. God allows us our freewill even when contrary to His. Being God, He has the necessary power, presence and foreknowledge to turn all evil back to the good.
No. Judas did what Jesus told him to do. And Jesus left it up to Judas to tell the others that he was the one who would betray Jesus
Judas didn’t have to dip his bread in that bowl of water.
Hitler?
I’ve pondered this myself. Real answer is “Above My Pay Grade”.
But I will spout off anyway - -
I believe God (Who IS Love) will give EVERY soul every chance they may need, to repent, even at the last moment. And He knows who will and will not repent, and when.
And I do not know these men’s last moments. Judas seems repentant. Pilate I don’t know. Hitler has the least chance of these three in my book.
There are some souls that I am more sure have ‘earned’ Hell.
San Bernardino shooters, for example. Those so demonically driven that their continued rejection of God’s grace puts them beyond their ability to accept repentance. Some ‘in your face’ abortionists may fit here.
On the cross Jesus intervened on behalf of those who crucified Him saying “Forgive them.” That included Pilot.
Inner circle, third firepit on the left
Judas hanged himself. That is suicide. He is in Hell even not considering his actions in the Garden.. Pilate, well we do not know the state of his soul at the time of his death or whether he came to believe. We could say that he is probably in Hell but we cannot say that with certainty.
The one sin Jesus told us is unforgivable is denying the power and authority of God as Satan did. So we don’t know in either case.
Hitler died by his own hand. That is suicide without repentance. He is surely in Hell.
So many confuse HELL with the Lake of Fire (Gehenna)
Hell is just an english rendering of Hades or Sheol, nothing more than a hole in the ground (grave or tomb)
The Lake of Fire is Spiritual and Paul has written much on it, as did Jesus.
If a man’s works is burned up; he will lose everything, yet he himself shall be saved as if by fire.
Also, ‘Fire and Brimstone’ sounds horrific but in ancient times both were used to cleanse precious metals such as gold and silver.
I guess all that I have stated above will cause some question; however, question this.
If one believes in a God who willingly and willfully torture billions upon billions with fire with NO HOPE of redemption, I ask you to name a single instance of Satan HIMSELF performing an act as horrific (even close)
Seem to me that GOD is LOVE and Satan is NOT, then who or what are you believing in if YOUR God could even imagine such an act of burning men, women and children alive for ever. Just consider the stench, the screams, the pleading for it to just end.
Do you love a God that would do such a thing, or does one feel vindicated because HE will but not to them?
As stated from the start; this whole notion is beyond biblical belief; because IF THIS TRUTH, then how could anyone be judged before the resurrection, for surely it was after the resurrection that the deeds of each of us a read and the rewards or condemnation given. The common belief of the resurrection prohibits HELL FIRE prior to the event.
If however the common PHYSICAL belief of the resurrection is false and the resurrection is spiritual, then this fits with what both Jesus and Paul taught.
For suicide, even with remorse, he is probably doomed. For all of them we can only say “probably” because all things are possible for God, no?
Orthodox believe that he became a Christian and even a bishop. There is some tradition of that going back to the early centuries.
Which ‘hell’? The only named entity that has been judged to ‘death’ is the devil. There is a number of fallen angels that too have been judged. The rest of the souls/spirit intellect are yet to be judged. There is something about that warning about judge not lest we be judged. It is Written twice that God hated Esau, but no where is it Written that Esau was judged to death.
lol. Not mine. The years on earth together were enough!
On the righteousness scale from 1 to 100 with God being 100 and Hilary Clinton being 0.
God: 100
Billy Graham: .000000086
Hitler: .00000008599999
God alone knows. Both committed suicide, both may have been offered a chance, in some way that it is impossible for us to understand, to accept Jesus, even at the very moment of death. Maybe not. It is absolutely not our place to speculate.
If Pilate went to purgatory that means that he went to heaven
Lol
A couple of years ago I passed a Honda Pilot on I-81 in Pennsylvania. The vehicle had a vanity license plate: PONTIUS.
LMAO.
Read the Book of Job, post haste.
