I’d guess they didn’t pay the right lobbyists or the DNC.

We went with Speed Queen.

They have a top loading washer that has manual controls, just like the good old days.

Depending how the bearings fail, I can see how they might start on fire.

Here's one that tore itself to pieces:

I suspect if the parts short out the electrical you can get a fire. . .

By the way the definition of "explode" includes the following secondary definition:

Explode—verb (used without object), exploded, exploding.

1. . . .

2. burst and release energy as through a violent chemical or physical reaction; "the bomb detonated at noon"; "The Molotov cocktail exploded"

I have one in my vacation rental right now. It is very complicated.Iit has options for “ bubble shot,” the rate of centrifugal force and an eco tumbler. It takes six hours to wash and dry ( it is an all in one.) It is also in Spanish.

Guess, we can wait to wash our clothes for now.

I bought a suite of Samsung appliances.
Dishwasher
Electric range
Microwave oven
Clothes washer
Clothes dryer
Refrigerator.

So far,
Microwave popped breakers

Refrigerator fan jammed, shut down cooling ... Samsung had no warranty repair available in the area(Orlando area)

Dishwasher circuit board defective ... the made me pay sixty dollars to bring in an electrician to verify the d/w was getting power. It was. They would not refund the sixty dollars to me.

And now, I’m one of those folks with a defective clothes washing machine.

I don’t think I’ll be buying more Samsung products any time soon.

Sure do miss the old, lonely Maytag man who had nothing to repair due to the quality of their machines. Hope none of my household devices don’t fail for a few more years or until I’m gone - all the new stuff is pure crap.

Why does that washer have a car battery inside of it?
Is this another “60 Minutes” trick?

Front loaders don’t blow up, they just make the house smell like a sewer pipe.

I’ve heard about the odor from front loaders. Plus, I have arthritis in my back and did not want to have to bend over to get clothes out. So I went with the top loader.

*Sigh.*

We have a 29 year old Kenmore top loader that’s going strong, and two Kenmore gas dryers, one 32 years old and the other 38 years old, all doing just fine.

No samsung washers in our future.

Why does that washer have a car battery inside of it?

If that's what it is. . . Maybe the battery was sitting on top of it? I haven't seen an unsealed battery with filler caps in years. Nor have I seen what components are inside Samsung's washers.

Would you believe that back in the 1930s, my father was "the loneliest man in town", the Maytag repairman, except back then, about 50% of the washing machines were gasoline powered! This experience served him well because his next job developed into a career as an aircraft mechanic. . . which resulted in his being a technical writer for the US Air Force, writing the instruction manuals for repairing, servicing, and piloting many jets you'd recognize. He also had to assist in investigating accidents when those planes crashed.

What a great story and memory. Awesome history. Didn’t realize there were such things as gas powered washing machines. Always thought they went from the old wash board to the agitator type with a wringer which we had when I was young.

Remember asking my mom how she knew when clothes were ready to take out of the wash tub and put in the rinse tub. She said the whites were ready by the time she made up a batch of egg noodles, the towels were ready by the time she had finished making the crust for a homemade pie for dinner, the colors were ready by the time she finished making bread pudding which went in my dad’s lunch pail every day and had it ready to go in the oven. Amazing parents we had.
