If you are a patriotic Conservative, Rick Steves is NOT your tour. Recently, a friend of mine took a tour to Sicily sponsored by Mr. Steves. The Tour went fine until the last day when they visited a war museum in Catania. The Tour Guide, a creature called "Alfeo" went on a long anti-American tirade, attacking us for our effort in Europe, blaming Black Lives Matter on the police, stating American troops raped Sicilian women, American flag waving Sicilians were forced to do so under armed force, 9-11 was our own fault, etc.
My friend spoke out and told the guide to shut up and stop attacking America, he was on vacation and did not want to hear politics. "Alfeo" ignored my friend and went on with his rant, stating RICK STEVES WANTED THIS TIRADE DELIVERED, IT WAS HIS POLICY.
He’s despicable. He’s also an avid nudist and promotes it on his tours.

I guess different strokes for different folks applies. Or perhaps what you find obnoxious I'd call his being a bit smart-aleckey. He is that, but it always seems to me a bit tongue in cheek, and done for the humor.

Gay men love nudist colonies and beaches. I’m sure there are some straight freaks too but so many gay men I’ve known hang out on nudist beaches in NJ.
I much preferred my time in Scotland, and would go back there in a heartbeat if I had the money, and was able to physically drag a suitcase around. I really enjoyed the Highlands.
Scotland is lovely. But at least you got to see Northern Ireland and learned a great deal. All travel is educational.

I think Rick Steves will eventually follow the path of the Frugal Gourmet.

He would often mention being an “Episcopal” minister.
This same Frugal fool Gourmet once said whites in the deep south wouldn’t eat blackeye peas for fear of turning black.

I knew he was a statist a$$hole, I didn’t know he subcontracted tour Marxist moron guides to lecture Americans on what’s wrong with them. I’d have demanded my money back for that segment of the tour, and at the very least fired up a social media $hitstorm warning others
A little late :
1) His shows usually seen on PBS are usually more than a decade old and hhose ‘happy’ countries he shows are in illegal-immigrant-hell/islamic-anti-semetism turmoil now
2) He has a special on “Fascism” (in Europe) which is lovingly repeated on PBS, but no comparable Show on Communism’s rise and detriments to the World (even HE must understand that such a show would NEVER play on PBS as it would paint their fellow travelers in a bad light).
3) He calls travel overseas ‘a political act’ (and dismisses ‘people in ‘the middle of our country with no passports’ like they are the problem). He spews that leftard brownnosing garbage on the PBS telethons while shilling his DVD and such
Mr Steves YOU DONT NEED A PASSPORT TO TRAVEL TO SAN FRANCISCO (OR MANY OTHER LEFTIST-RUN CITIES) TO SEE BUMS/FECES/NEEDLES LAYING IN THE STREETS AND NOW THE CURRENT EPIDEMIC OF SANITATION DISEASES THERE THAT WERE THOUGHT WIPED OUT 100 YEARS AGO.
