The last ball of the game went into the first basemans pocket pretty damn quick. Wonder what that will be worth someday?

It's really amazing to see that the guys who wrote the screenplay for Back To The Future 2 were only a year off their prediction.

Of course, Ronald Reagan announced Cubs games back in his WHO days in Iowa. I hope he is appreciating the outcome.

It’s appropriate that you bring that up.

I’m not a former resident fan. I addressed what I knew about th team, but it was a long distance relationship for me. Locals would probably identify much more with your insight.

Thanks for making your point. If I had been a local, I’d probable agree with you. In fact I do based on your comments.

I’ve had limited exposure to Joe, so I can’t say much here.

It’s strange how a guy appeals to some folks and fails with others.

What I did hear from Buck was good.

Events from 1908:

“October 14 – The Chicago Cubs win the 1908 World Series defeating the Detroit Tigers in Game 5. “

and:

“November 3 – 1908 Presidential election: Republican William Howard Taft defeats Democrat William Jennings Bryan.”

Looks like the precedent has been set. Cubs win, Republican wins WH!

The longest World Series droughts now are:
1948-Cleveland Indians
1961-Washington Senators/Texas Rangers-never having won a World Series; joined AL along with the California Angels as an expansion team. Two World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011.
1962-Houston Colt 45’s/Astros-Never having won a World Series; joined NL along with New York Mets as expansion team. Only World Series appearance was in 2005 against the Chicago White Sox who ended their 1917 started drought that year.
1969-Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals-No World Series appearances, oldest team in MLB to not have done so currently.
1969-San Diego Padres-Never having won; joined NL along with Expos franchise as an expansion club. Two World Series appearances in 1984 against Detroit and 1998 against NY Yankees.
1969-Seattle Pilots/Milwaukee Brewers-Never having won; joined AL as expansion team along with Kansas City Royals. Only World Series appearance was against St Louis Cardinals in 1982.

I hope that this game will probably be replayed on You Tube—or at least highlights of it so we and future Cubs fans can enjoy it in the future! :)

Are you kidding? Probably 1/2 of the Chicago people who were adults in 1985 still have a VHS copy of Super Bowl XX, along with a commercial copy in case the VHS gives up. Hopefully they won't use VHS this time for this game...

Check my later post for other info. Also to consider is that since the Cubs made their first appearance in a World Series for the first time since 1945, the longest absence from a Finals appearance for any of the Big Four league teams is now the Sacramento Kings NBA team, since they last competed in the NBA Finals as the Rochester Royals in 1951 (their only championship). Last made it to the NBA Final Four in 2002 and that was their first appearance in that round since 1981.

.-—————————

Of course they do—Actually, I was born and raised in Chicagoland, and live here now....

I was not speaking generally, but rather I was speaking to YOU...Sad you could not watch this very special game...From what you said, I was not certain YOU had TV as you stated you listened on radio...so not likely YOU recorded it...

A lot has changed since 1985, and not sure how the distribution rights will go as impacting the whole game on You Tube. However, if it was on You Tube, then YOU would get to watch it...

I hope you get the chance to see it.

Cheers!

I watched the post game interview with Francona. Talk about a conflicted guy:

His team just lost after being up 3-1 in the series(karma is amazing, because he did the same to the Yankees when he was with Boston) and he could stop marveling over the baseball he just witnessed.

Rain delay? Team meeting? Two runs? Chapman coughs up three with one out to get?

I wished I’d have recorded it. It needs to be preserved and shown to future generations.

Zobrist? MVP again with a different team, same result? It’s too cheesy for Hollywood, and yet it happened. Apparently Lester’s catcher is leaving the team? He’s 39 I think. This is how he went out of MLB. Not bad.
