Saw “Jack Reacher” — meh. Save your money.
Get one of the old comic book movies. The new ones are crummy.
I used to work with a guy named Dr Robert Strange. He was a Sociologist I think. He got a kick from the comic books
But will there be a cameo by Steve Ditko???
Dr Strange is not a C level character. He’s the Sorceror Supreme for goodness sake.
If the movie doesn’t take in $100 million opening weekend, if will be a disappointment.
I’ve seen all the movies of the MCU so far, and liked most of them. Ant-Man was a bit of a disappointment and I can’t say I’m excited about Dr Strange. They turned the Ancient One into a woman and made Baron Mordo black. That’s enough to make me want to wait until I can watch it on TV.
C-level?! He’s the master of the mystic arts.
Who plays Dr. Strange? Tim Kaine? That would be believable.
All of the characters are what you make of them, whether writing for comics or movies.
Frank Miller did a lot with a "2nd stringer" character named Daredevil in the 80s. Alan Moore did as well with DC's Swamp Thing.
The Guardians of the Galaxy comic characters didn't have much of a following (Jim Starlin's 70s and 80s work was more focused on Captain Marvel and others) but the movie sold well and was more entertaining than the new Star Wars (both films being knock off of the original Star Wars).
TVland and Movieland have pretty well been saturated with these comics/superheroes. Even Amazon Prime and Netflix have produced some series.
While they are a tad preferrable to realityTV, my interest is becoming jaded.
Is it PC? If so, no go.
I will see Hacksaw Ridge if Trump wins. Otherwise, I’m not going into a theater.
Looking at the trailer, one hopes Nolan gets the message: if Marvel (and to a lesser extent ST & SW) are going to riff on your CGI quad-dimensional uberthink to the tune of billions, make the goddamn Inception sequel before Leo is too old/rich to compel or care...
Right now, Disney owns the top four films at the box office this year, and three (”Captain America: Civil War,” “Zootopia,” “Finding Dory”) have broken the billion dollar mark. (”The Jungle Book” is the fourth.)
Disney has Marvel “Doctor Strange,” animation “Moana” (starring The Rock), and “Star Wars: Rogue One” coming out before the end of the year.
I’m thinking only “Fantastic Beasts” from the Harry Potter Universe has a shot at coming in higher than any of these seven Disney films.
“Doctor Strange is a C-level Marvel character, and the fact that you can pull an $80-million debut is ludicrous when you think about it.”
Fifty years ago such a movie would have been given a B budget with chintzy special effects in Black and White, and be shown on the bottom half of a drive in double feature with HERCULES AND THE WOMEN FROM MARS.
Today such a movie gets class A budgets, top CGIs, glorious color and will be rushed to DVD in three months.
We are overloaded with superhero movies. A few weeks ago the local 6 Plex had two superhero movies, two SI-FI movies, a teen movie and a kiddie cartoon movie. Nothing for an adult.
We truly live in an age of fantasy.
I think they’re hoping this is another “Guardians of the Galaxy”, cheap picture riding off novelty, humor and ideas to make a lot of money.
Stupid to cast an Asian man character with a white woman. I didn’t like a black man cast as a Nordic in Thor either but that was racist.
