At least it’s a company, buying another company.....not al a Solydra. *I’m from the government and here to help you.*

I’m not here to defend Telso, solarcity, etal. I think it is an interesting product; I also think solar panels on house roofs are butt-ugly.

Probably not. In New England the combination of sunny days and the long grey winters are not optimum for solar panels. Yet.

What about hail? Can someone walk on it if you had to get to your chimney? If a bird sits on it will it burst into flames cause it gets heated?

Then...just keep on being you.

Enjoying these big foreign companies getting subsidized with OUR monies to build windmills...That will not get maintained, repaired, replaced...when the government monies are gone.. I've seen this for YEARS.

Let me ask you something...Do you think...these big windmill outfits should get exemptions to kill so many BALD EAGLES a year? Let alone other raptors....Yes...they do.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/05/04/new-administration-rule-would-permit-thousands-eagle-deaths-at-wind-farms.html

Let these companies REALLY work in the FREE MARKET...Let Musk fund HIS OWN DAMN companies....

What's sad...is you don't care you are funding government boondoggles.........

How many would you like me to name...bigdaddy?

Just asking...cause I can name many.

I think it's an interesting product, one that is not brand new or particularly innovative, there are similar items already on the market (though admittedly, these are much nicer.)

What bothers me is that this particular combo, Tesla and SolarCity, will likely discourage others from entering this market and they really will be the only game in town. And as the past has shown, especially in California, when there's one game in town, money goes to Democrats and laws get passed that favor them.

I could easily see California passing a law requiring the use of ‘professionally installed solar roofing’ in fire prone areas as it is ‘fireproof.’ Besides, previously favored and mandated roofing materials don't have anywhere near the same amount of money to buy Democrats with that these two do.

I bet they’d be reasonably wind proof.

They might work well in a warm, sunny tropical place like I live in but you you raise valid questions about colder climes

One of those important acronyms: ROI. How many decades before it pays for itself.

“square meters”

What is this recent love affair with the European metric system? Fad? Cool factor?

I realize it’s a superior system of measure, but for general conversation among Americans, it sounds pretentious.

Nothing personal, Karl. Just a pet peeve of mine.

One reason why it is used for solar energy is that solar irradiance at earth's surface is approximately 1 kilowatt/square meter. It makes the math easy.

The tiles “... they’re made from quartz glass...”

Wonder how they hold up to hail?

Try putting these on a house in Florida. But before you commit to a contract, you may want to call your insurance company first.

There is a reason there is not a sea of solar roofs here. Your on the hook for the replacement cost if a hurricane rips them off.

He built a self-igniting car. He built an autopilot for cars that kills people. He built car doors that won’t open. He’s soaked the taxpayers for billsions. I admit it. I’ve never done any of those things.
