Great Italian food in the Boston West Roxbury area.

Well, I just found out that my dad is sending me to Boston for a while.

Don't know if I'm going to be there a week or whether longer.

Now, I am open to suggestions for really great Italian restaurants.

I'll be leaving next Monday.

Yes! But Pizzeria Regina in the North End beats the crap out of Santarpios ;)

The one time I was there I went to a restaurant that had pretty good Italian food. Unfortunately I can't recall the name of the place. In any case, some of the regulars caused a bit of a ruckus when they started arguing with each other. I happened to have had my smartphone out, so I took a photo...

Yes, it made additional news during the summer when the building adjacent to it caught fire and significant damage; however, the restaurant was untouched.

Actually I now recall the place was called ‘cantina italiana.’ It was a favored date place years ago.

I never ate at Santahpios only heard about it and saw it on my way to the airport:) That said, I was never impressed with pizzeria regina even when I took my date ‘Regina’ there.

What did Italians eat before they got noodles from the Chinese and the tomatoe from the Indians?

haha! It’s a pretty big thing around here with pizza aficionados. Fighting words.

Pizzeria Regina is only good in the North End, the satellites are lousy, IMO. Santarpios to me is tasteless.

I do love the Regina though! Been going there since I was in a baby carriage and the North End was really Italian (long time!).

That said, I think almost every restaurant in the North End is delicious because they all have to compete against one another. The idea is to go where you like what each one specializes in.

I love Giacomo’s - north end and the south end.

Forget all that flour and tomato crap and go for Guinness and a great fish and chips at the Corrib in West Roxbury, it’s the best in the Northeast.

Don’t listen to the naysayers, Santarpio’s is still making the best pizza in the Boston area. They opened a second location on Rt 1 on the North Shore. I highly recommend a skewer of steak tips, a skewer of lamb tips and a sausage.

Just got back from Boston, there is an absurd wealth of Italian food in the North End neighborhood, just one great looking restaurant after the next. We were very happy with our meal there.

Good grief. I think the Italians "SLIGHTLY" improved on those both of those things since then. I mean, just a weeee bit.

When my Italian husband was young & broke he & his friend Tom would go to Bertucci’s in Norwell & order the cheapest thing & fill up on their delicious rolls ; )
