Best Songs for Halloween Playlist. Your opinions?

Halloween playlist

Rockwell (featuring Michael Jackson): Somebody's Watching Me

Michael Jackson: Thriller

David Bowie: Space Oddity

Shakespeare's Sister: Stay

The Police (or, Sting's solo version): Shadows in the Rain

Sting: Moon over Bourbon Street

Adele: Hello. (That's right, it's Halloween because the singer's character is dead!)

Rolling Stones: Sympathy for the Devil

Blue Oyster Cult: Don't Fear the Reaper.

Warren Zevon: Werewolves of London

Eminem (featuring Rihanna): The Monster

Ray Parker, Jr.: Ghostbusters

Billy Idol: White Wedding, Dancing with Myself, Rebel Yell or Eyes without a Face. Not specifically Halloween-themed, but creepy. And great Halloween-y videos.

Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse of the Heart. I'd recommend the Nikki French version; Bonnie Tyler's is better, but French's is more suited to a dance party. Oh, yes: it is about vampires.

Roger Daltry: Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me. Twists the love ballad into a vampire song. And it's from "Lost Boys."

Echo and the Bunnymen: People are Strange. Not an improvement over the Doors' version, but a little more danceable.

Ciara: Paint it Black. Again, simply more danceable than the Stone's version.

Not on my personal playlist:

Zombie, by the Cranberries. Fantastic song. But it's about children in a real-life war.

Demons, by Imagine Dragons. Another solid song. But it just doesn't feel very Halloween-y to me. Disagree?

Monster Mash. The "chicken dance" song of Halloween, but has anyone noticed it's a lousy dance song?

Got three in the classical genre myself:

Symphonie Fantastique - Hector Berlioz

Symphony #5 (Lenore) - Johann Raff

Der Erste Walpurgisnacht - Felix Mendelssohn

They'll all do, but I especially like the Raff piece, his best, IMHO. A young lady falls in love with a soldier, he's killed, and she curses God and demands him back. And he comes back. Be careful what you wish for. Berlioz's piece concerns a young feller who murders his lover, gets the guillotine, and dances in Hell afterward. Mendelssohn's is a little less grotesque but beautifully lyrical. And eerie as all git out.

Tangerine Dream’s “Logos” was used as the soundtrack to a horror movie, so it might qualify. Also, almost any King Crimson material from the early 70s. Like this piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j23Ul6YKQX8

Monster music, indeed.

For when handing out candy, Umma Gumma is perfect. It’s 2 discs cover the peak trick or trick time and it is spacy enough to be Halloweenish.

—Ghost Riders in the Sky—recorded by many artists, including Johnny Cash

—Pretty much anything by the group Concrete Blonde. From their album “Bloodletting” alone, there are songs such as “Bloodletting (The Vampire Song),” “Darkening of the Light,” and “The Beast.” Their stuff isn’t really danceable, it’s just dark. Perfect for Halloween...or a seance! :)

Your picks are great!!

“Monster Mash” is the only Halloween song that is worthwhile.

For the kids, "Witch Doctor" by David Seville and Alvin and the Chipmunks

These two by the Beatles have a spooky sound: "Eleanor Rigby" and "A Day in the Life"

"Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" by Elton John

"Swamp Witch" by Jim Stafford

"Layla" by Derek and the Dominos - makes me think of finding dead gangster bodies.
