The Armys Reserve Officers Training Corps program, which has delivered military training at colleges and universities since 1916, has been ordered to tape their guns in high viz orange for safety.
The news, reported by The Washington Post this week, comes after incidents where students and faculty have mistaken drills by cadets with inert guns as dangerous active shooters.
Now, under the orders of Maj. Gen. Christopher P. Hughes, the 250 Army ROTC units and 700 affiliates will conduct on campus training with simulated weapons (using empty hands mimicking carrying guns) while taking extra precautions in transport and storage of inert drill rifles including applying orange tape.
Due to the national increase of workplace and campus shootings, our training requires increased coordination, on and off-campus, with appropriate authorities to enhance our safety and minimize misperception by civilian populace or local authorities, Hughes said in the new policy.
Meanwhile, in Russia
“So if a real shooter puts orange tape on his gun, what are the disarmed sheeple going to do?”
Simulate return fire with their hands.
I think they are out of uniform...
My grandad did the same thing when he was in HS - took the bus to school and on target shooting days would have his .22 rifle up between his legs on the school bus. He also ran around NYC as a kid when he was nine.
No, you can’t return fire with your hands by pointing at the active terrorist.
It’s illegal to point like a gun with your finger in school!
Meant to add: He ran around NYC alone.
How humiliating.
So now with the practice rifles all blaze orange, the snowflakes can call in active shooter reports from 4 times the distance away...
We had a .22 rifle range in the basement of our high school cafeteria...used to carry soft cased rifles across campus to the range from the armory all the time. Sometimes brought soft cased .22 rifles from home. Wish so much we could return to the times of sanity.
We had an active .22 range at Michigan State University under The Army’s “Demonstration Hall”. I learned on an Army-owned Remington 513T rifle. We also shot M-16s with the .22LR subcal devices. When I go back, I always forget to ask if the range is still active.
When I attended the selection course for SF in NC we were given dummy M-16s that were orange. I thought it was pretty stupid back then too (1995).
I really don’t see the problem with them making this rule. What’s the big deal? Maybe if they did a better job putting the tape on...they would look more presentable. Or maybe just two orange stripes on the barrel.
America has lost its collective 'balls.'
An armed society is a polite society.
Should work for umbrellas, right?
For the love of ****. Trump has to win or we are doomed.
Because there is no way I could tape up an AR-15 like that...
Too late for that. The inmates are now running the asylum. As I wrote; when my GD would get off the bus he’d lock his rifle in his locker in the hallway and then after school go to the rifle range that was under the gym.
And don’t forget to put flowers in the barrels.
We used to march in Dem Hall when I went to AFROTC. I never used the range.
Is Dem Hall still there or did they demolish it?
