Hope you enjoy. Genius Of Love
music *ping*
We saw them live in Boston, I’m not sure how many years ago. :)
As a bass player, I love Tina Weymouth’s bass playing. She’s not one of the greats, but she’s fun, keeps it in the groove, And they are still performing!
I saw an interview with her a couple of years ago. Really a nice person. Much nicer than Carol Kaye, from what I’ve seen of the two of them. I think she and my wife would get along great.
Great LP, which I bought back when it was released!

One of the best songs of all time.
Must have been in a coma in the 80’s. I do NOT remember ever hearing this.
However, this one was played often during that same time
Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes (1981)

Worst song, ever.
What you gonna do when you get out of jail?
Still have a thing for Tina Weymouth..
Saw them in Nashville. 1983 to 1985 timeframe. Was Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club/Talking Heads sets.
Was with a new girlfriend, in an MG with no top and a pony keg of beer behind the seats when we went on the spur of the moment. One of those few “life affirming” memories that stay with you for life!
Ouch, an assault on the ears.
I’m a big Tom Tom Club fan. Always learning why I love you Freepers.
That sounds great!!
I’m surprised you don’t recall hearing this song. It was extremely popular for quite some time. It could be that you just listened to radio stations that didn’t play it. Genius of Love’ is very long for radio play. The song was a Jambalaya of sweet and sour flavorings.
It did not fit neatly into any genre known at that time. What style was it?
Rock?, R&B?, Contemporary, Progressive Pop? What was it? was the question, for those who need labels before they will put it on the air. Many folks from this group were also a part of The Talking Heads, another popular group of that time.
The song has a great ‘hook’. First five notes, you know what’s coming. Mariah Carey did her own version and also had a hit. Best Earworm evah!
Life totally changed in the 80’s and not as much time spent in the enjoyment of music. There are certainly a great number of tunes that have never been known to exist in this small, little corner of the world. Music changed, life changed and the wheel goes round and round.
Do remember The Talking Heads, but only vaguely. Do not remember anything about this group. nada. In the 80’s there were the radio stations and Much Music out of the CBC on the large satellite dish from which to choose. If not heard here, all was silent. Now ask about Culture Club! That is remembered; or Cyndi Lauper, the Eurythmics, Grace Jones.
Awful.
Bringing up bad memories of a Greyhound bus trip many years ago.
Some little kid stood on his seat and sang “James Brown.....James Brown.....James Brown....James Brown...” over and over, all the way to Cleveland at five o’clock in the morning.
