Het Dante, I remember a song called ‘October Country’ from around 1966-67 or so. I think the band’s name was: ‘The October Country’ or something close to that.

“Nope. As soon as someone adds Neil Diamond to the list, it’s like invoking Godwin’s Law when someone mentions Hitler and they IMMEDIATELY lose the argument, LOL!”

lol, indeed!

For the record, I posted Neil Diamond for the sake of completeness. All my autumn favorites had already been mentioned—all with much less chest hair.

The band I play in played “Autumn Leaves” today as an instrumental at Old Timers Day.

“It’s amazing how many songs with “summer” in their title or their lyrics are really about the fall — or, more accurately, about the melancholy mood as summer fades to fall.”

I was thinking something very similar, I was about to post Frank Sinatra’s “Summer Wind” as the archetypal Autumn song but I thought people would think I was crazy posting a song with “summer” in the title as a great Autumn song.

The Boys of Summer is my favorite Don Henley song of all time. Thanks for calling it to my mind!

It’s on the Moody Blues greatest hits, so it’s okay. It was written by Jeff Wayne prior to Wayne’s composition of his War of the Worlds rock opera. Justin Hayward performed it and a few other great songs for that album, but it was later released without dialogue. It perfectly evokes the fall feeling.

I was going to say Forever Autumn, but I’ll switch to England Dan and John Ford Coley’s Where Do I Go From Here, which is very similar, thematically.

Also, Journey’s Stone In Love puts me in a fall mood. It talks about summer, but in a past way. Their Girl Can’t Help It also makes me think of cool nights with a full moon in the sky, but that’s probably more when I listened to it than anything intrinsic to the song.

I think that’s the name of the album. The song with that line in the lyrics is “California Dreaming.”
