A New Jersey woman's $1,200 purse burned up on a sales counter in a mall when a battery exploded. And the entire thing was caught on a security camera.
Mara McInerney of Matawan, N.J. was shopping at the Freehold Raceway Mall on Sept. 11 when the incident took place. She was at a Sunglass Hut counter speaking to the salesperson when a huge cloud of smoke poured out of the purse. The employee took off running while McInerney backed away.
She grabbed the purse and dumped the contents on the floor but it was too late to save the bag, her wallet, several pieces of jewelry and an undetermined amount of cash. Everything had either melted or burned.
McInerney says the battery of her e-cigarette had been in a pocket by itself and exploded.
She says she had no idea that the devices could pose any danger and says she will no longer use them since she has a young daughter at home.
"At least it wasn't one of my Chanels," McInerney said.

That’s what I was thinking - and it probably looked no better than a pursue you could by for far, far less anyway.
I’ll bet it was a knockoff copy, and she’s just claiming it was a real designer product to bilk her insurance company.
And it was probably a cheap Chinese knock-off.

I watched the video (3+ minutes I’ll never get back) and found both women to be a bit creepy. I guess the reporter thought she was funny.
If I had an extra $15,000, I’d spend it on a new roof for my house, get my oldest grandson’s car fixed or buy him a new one, or help some of my neighbors financially who have lost their jobs due to the economic downturn. Guess it all depends on where your priorities are and what a person views as important. Just can’t fathom spending so much money on something so insignificant as a handbag.
I feel the same way, but when $15,000 is like $150 to you and me, I guess the outlook is different.
What’s blowing my mind is the $1200 purse. No way I would ever pay that much for a purse!
