Sorry for the rare vanity, but I don't have an article for this. While the left's steadfast refusal to Islamic terror by that name is awful, the right's use of "radical Islamic terror" also bothers me. While it certainly is radical by Western standards, there really is nothing new or radical about ISIS, Al Qaeda and other jihadists by Islamic standards. Calling them that perpetuates the lie that they are a tiny bunch outside the norms of Islam. However just calling them "Islamic" doesn't account for the population of Muslims that don't share their goals.
Today I was watching an interview with the head of a Muslim group that is opposed to those groups and their apologists in organizations like CAIR. He made the point that by not profiling those people the government is allowing them to terrorize Muslims who believe as he does into keeping quiet. What really got my attention was the use of the term "theocratic Islam" which he specifically included regimes like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, etc. as well as groups like the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR. I think "theocratic Islam" is a great term that clarifies the real issue like nothing else, and includes groups that espouse their ideology and not just those that are out committing violence. '
It was standard parlance in the U.S. for decades. But the P.C. police and CAIR didn't like it. so it had to go.
“Radical Islam” is more correct, in my view. “Radical” means basically “the root” - i.e., mass murder, rape, enslavement and a host of other evil were the base Mohamed founded it on.
“Theocratic Islam” would be less correct as Islam is a political ideology, one obviously having nothing to do with God.
Agreed 100 percent!!
You’ve been a member forever and I am on the board so much my mail gets sent to Jim. Never remember seeing you before.
It’s an honor.
You speak the truth!!!
Well, at least you posted this in Chat, instead of BREAKING NEWS!!!
;-)
“Historical Islam”
Just ISLAM. There is no modifier needed. ISLAM is a cult of conquest. If you read the Hadith and the Koran, you can see that anyone who is moderately devout muslim is an enemy of freedom!
Anyone who is a ‘moderate muslim’ is not a true muslim. They want to kill or enslave us all. That is all you need to know.
Islam
Good idea.
I was suspended - again on a different site for using the term “Mohammedans”.
I finally suggested using “Mirks” (murderous lslamic radical killers) but I think it is a little redundant.
Deport them all. Strip them of any ill gotten citizenship. If there's any more attacks, nuke mecca and medina.
In a sane world, Real Americans wouldn't have to waste time on this 7th century death cult.
How about just *Islam*?
Since by its very nature it’s radical.
Help me understand please. As Islam is documented as the creation of a psychopathic pervert, and is actually a twisted, convoluted political ideology under the guise of a religion as its vehicle why should we show any respect whatsoever in how we address it?
Ditto.
All muslims are taught the same thing.
Hear, hear.
I have been calling it “Fundamentalist Islam” since I first read the Qur’an and Hadiths in the 1970s
The leader of Turkey has been quoted as saying “There is no radical Islam. There is only Islam.” Maybe once Mr. Trump is President, this truth will begin to be drummed into the heads of ignorant Americans (not Trump supporters!).
I’ve used the term “fundamentalist Islam” as well. But for those who don’t know as much about Islam as most FReepers (which is the vast majority of the population) calling it “fundamentalist” or just Islam doesn’t convey to those people why it’s unacceptable and at odds with our way of life. “Theocratic” defines and clarifies the problem with Islam that is easily understandable for the average person. Let their apologists defend it.
I simply don’t think it is necessary to “rebrand” Islamic Terrorists. KKK and Nazi needed no modifiers and they are both on equal footing in my personal belief system.
They know who they are and they know we know who they are. I’m just waiting for us to put the Varsity on the field.
I prefer the term “devout” ...
