(CNN)A Russian river located by the Arctic town of Norilsk turned bright red Tuesday, looking more like an enormous blood vessel than a body of water. Stunned residents shared photos online of the bizarre scene at Daldykan River.
Authorities are trying to determine why the river changed colors and are evaluating possible environmental damages.

We think in a similar vein, I regret to inform you.
If this isn’t a sign, it sure is a wonder!
My first thought when I read the headline was there’s a Russian River in Tuscaloosa?
Red Algae bloom?

Similar occurrence takes place in the Chesapeake Bay in the spring and fall.
Holy Cow!
Blame it on Climate Change/Global warming
Screw Bama!
How bad did your team lose to the Crimson Tide?
From the looks of the countryside around the river, the land isn’t doing a whole lot better.
It’s downstream of a huge sulfate ore (with mercury and arsenic traces plus chromium sulfate) smelter which has created the most polluted acreage in the world by some estimates. I wouldn’t live downstream let alone work there. The Soviets did nothing to mitigate the damages and neither have their successors.
Belatedly it’s the blood of the millions murdered by the communists in that icy hellhole.
I’m surprised to see anything alive and growing within 500ft of the riverbanks.
Red River Valley
From this valley they say you are going,
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile,
For they say you are taking the sunshine
Which has brightened our pathways a while.
Chorus
Come and sit by my side if you love me;
Do not hasten to bid me adieu,
But remember the Red River Valley,
And the girl that has loved you so true.
I’ve been thinking a long time, my darling,
Of the sweet words you never would say,
Now, alas, must my fond hopes all vanish?
For they say you are going away.
Won’t you think of the valley you’re leaving,
Oh, how lonely and sad it will be,
Just think of the fond heart you’re breaking,
And the grief you are causing to me.
From this valley they say you are going,
When you go, may your darling go too?
Would you leave her behind unprotected,
When she loves no one other than you.
As you go to your home by the ocean,
May you never forget those sweet hours,
That we spent in the Red River Valley,
And the love we exchanged ‘mid the flowers.
I have promised you, darling, that never
Will a word from my lips cause you pain,
And my life, it will be yours forever,
If you only will love me again.
They will bury me where you have wandered,
Near the hills where the daffodils grow,
When you’re gone from the Red River valley,
For I can’t live without you I know.
Did you leave out the "O"?
Revelation 16:4 The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood.
Yeah I noticed that too...
Whew! For a second there, I thought it was a huge wine spill in the Russian River in California.
That’s some tough undergrowth! I was born in a town with a smelter. The smelter closed in 1972 and the desert has recovered since then pretty completely. Not having SO2 pumped into the air helps. It was a pretty neat looking old plant though. It had had a machine shop that could make most anything as the railroad had steam locomotives and the rest of the mine used equipment that was out of date.
The Borsch Belt!!
Anyone bother to check the algae bloom before all the knee jerking?
