The husband of an Ohio schoolteacher, who was severely injured when four men dropped a rock on her car from a highway overpass, killed himself late Saturday night – and the prosecutor who jailed the rock-throwers blames them for Randy Budd’s suicide.

Budd, 55, was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Ohio residence, Harry Campbell, chief investigator for Ohio’s Stark County Coroner’s office, told the AP on Sunday.

“Randy Budd did not die from a gunshot,” Union County District Attorney D. Peter Johnson told pennlive.com. “He died when those kids threw a rock through his windshield.”

While driving through Ohio, Columbus to be exact, I and my gf at the time (Separate cars) were attacked along with tens of other cars by blacks throwing concrete blocks at us. They were just walking around the highway - not even at the side. They were walking several lanes out into traffic to throw concrete blocks at us.

Then, in 2004, I was robbed by a toll booth attendant in Ohio.

Those roads out there are totally lawless.

The only reason I would accept if he was in extreme pain and terminally ill. I could understand that. But, you did not give any details.

...

That didn’t stop you from calling him a coward.

“coward” likely is not a proper word to use. Neither is “easy”.

All choices have a spiritual component (for good/life/hope or for destruction/evil/hopeless).

Some folks in some specific moments of situations go weak under the influence of hopeless thoughts and do choose to take their own life. I have a close relative who was just over 20yrs old and did just that.

I don’t consider him a coward or making an easy choice. He claimed to believe in God, yet in that moment as evil invaded his thoughts (which I cannot imagine what thoughts grew in his heart and mind) he chose to go weak, hopeless.

In before some idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about says 'permanent solution to a temporary problem'.

I did know a guy who committed suicide about three months after his wife of less than a year was killed in a car accident.

Great response!

Some people can be so hateful and hurtful in their judgements of others, when then haven't been there themselves.

I laud your attitude towards those who would disparage you and your deceased husband. Bless you.

Four young men – Brett and Dylan Lahr, Keefer McGee and Tyler Porter – were convicted and sentenced to prison sentences ranging from 11 ½ months to 4 ½ years in a case that attracted national attention.

Presumably they weren't convicted of attempted murder but of some much lesser offense, which is unfortunate.

Most likely this was some kind of gang initiation ritual - many gangs make their new recruits do something like this to prove their loyalty and false "bravery."

Which makes you a despicable sack of dog crap.

I’m only responding to you to educate you; sort of a discourse with attitude.

My husband battled his disease for almost 20 years. I do not have to justify his choice to you. You, however, could learn a little bit about empathy.

My husband received Last Rights, had a Catholic funeral, and I was assured that he had earned an E-ticket to Heaven, no time in Purgatory. His pain was over. I am happy that he is finally out of pain.

Of course his death exploded our world. His sister, a really good example of a fine Christian woman (up until she said this) told me my husband would go to hell because he took his own life. Sadly, a lot of people feel the same way and feel the need to share that belief.

Last I knew, God makes that call.

And life has been pretty hellish since DH left us, but ya know what? It’s a LIFE, it’s my job to live it. Adapt, overcome.

Last week, I was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. The thought of dying and being with DH is tempting, but the responsibility to stay long enough to see our grandchildren grow up makes me fight.

Please rethink your position that suicides are cowardly. Educate yourself about depression. Please think about the survivors, like me, who are left to carry on. As you might have noticed, I am a very strong-willed woman. My husband knew that.

So....yeah, if you and I were in a bar and you called my husband a coward, I WOULD invite you to step outside. I would tell you all of the above and more, and if you still insisted he was a coward, THEN I would kick your ass, and take you to the library.

(And for those of you playing along at home who are in my shoes, you’re welcome. This bitch does not play the victim card. Speak up if you can, and if you can’t, that’s ok. I’ll take a few on the chin for all of us survivors)

Yeah, I bet your husband is all excited about your threats. I know I'm not.

You, however, could learn a little bit about empathy.

I have empathy. I've heard, at 20+ years of AA meetings stories that would rival whatever your husband went through. They are alive today and didn't take their own lives. Some died and some took their lives. I've heard it all. From diseases to being locked up as a sex slave and they stayed alive to tell their stories so others could learn - and empathize.

Sorry, your husband is dead. Your scorn and anger don't really faze me. Perhaps if you'd explained yourself better in the first place you wouldn't be making childish threats of violence on FR.

If you still think you want to "kick my ass" so be it. I have more class than to even think about an older woman fighting over name calling let alone participate in it.

Why yes, yes he did, which is why he called me right before he pulled the trigger. He apologized for what he was about to do, but he said that he knew I would understand. It was a most considerate suicide. He told me not to feel guilty, no blame, no shame and he thanked me for helping keep him here as long as he could stand it.
