If the House chooses the president they have to pick one of the top five candidates by electoral votes. They just can’t pick anyone. Of course one unfaithful elector could vote for Ryan and make him among the top five.
To make a difference though, Johnson would have to win a state that Hillary would otherwise need to get to 270. I can’t imagine him doing that. The most likely states I can see him winning would be New Mexico or Utah, neither of which Hillary would need to get to 270.

The Bushes in particular are acting like spoiled brats, and are totally disgraceful. I’d have happily stood in line for hours to pay tribute to either at the time he will lay in state at the U.S. Capitol. Pretty much as I stood for hours across from the VP mansion in 2000. Ain’t gonna happen now.

My brother is one of them. He is socially liberal but dislikes Hillary. Johnson attracts people like him -- mostly white guys who want to do their own thing. Fiscally they're more on the conservative side -- as long as the government leaves them be & not tax them to the wazoo.
Someone once said, "Third parties are like bees -- they sting & then die." Generally they end up getting absorbed by either the Republicans or the Democrats, who will usurp or integrate their ideas.
