What did you think of Trump's speech?

Posted on 07/21/2016 9:17:54 PM PDT by MNDude

Of course we all loved it, but how do you think it'll effect voters?

Independents, anti-Trump Republicans, evangelicals, other needed voting blocks?

He’s the new Reagan.

Not until he leaves us with 25+ years of prosperity.

I thought it was good, but I kept seeing the panning of the audience that was full of delegates who were mostly not Trump supporters.

I think that ruined it.

It offended Van Jones so that works for me.

Trump is such an anti-politician that his rather over-the-top speaking style actually works, his non-verbal message is this — “look, obviously I’m a businessman not a politician, but I want to do this, this and that, and I am used to doing such things and also used to getting my way.”

That cuts through the lofty, soaring rhetoric of past and present contenders and opponents who promise the Moon and the stars and deliver a pile of donkey droppings.

But if you were watching the CNN panel discussion (and like me you are a sado-masochist) then you may have noticed that our guy asked the wrong question about Obama. It was asked, “didn’t he promise to stop the rise of the oceans?” but the better question would have been “have the oceans actually risen? is he still taking credit for it? why?”

The things that Donald Trump wants to fix are real problems for real people. They are not hurt feelings or tenth of a degree temperature rises or making women even more equal (at some point, you can’t get more equal and maybe overshoot to being superior, heh heh) — his targets are terrorism, disorder, unemployment, borders that are open gates — and the average people get that. They want those things fixed. And the finer points of oratory don’t matter that much, Trump would be in the same place by just saying, you know what I want to do, and I promise to do it, end of story.

No other Republican would have included illegal immigration, the victims and the WALL into this speech - don’t underestimate this issue, this will resonate yuge.

Donald Trump is no William Jennings Bryan, the great American orator.

But HE GAVE IT ALL HE HAD, put his heart and soul into it, delivered it flawlessly, displayed remarkable energy and endurance for his age and schedules, and spoke TO the people watching at home, not down to them.

He'll do the SAME thing for our country.

Compelling, powerful, timely, a superb speech delivered with a real sense of urgency. The Art of the speech.

This is why the devils in the Press are attacking it so vigorously.

< he made promises he can't possibly keep

he'll have whole departments working under him to assist his efforts. He won'r solving the problems all by himself. Hell even if he only does one of them I'll be happy especially after the last 8 year train work and assault against the American people.

“I don’t think we can ever bridge this gap.”

Dennis Prager just uttered this on his show this morning.
We are so divided that he thought nothing could bring us together. I agree.

Ultimately I think we’re gonna have to split the country in half. Half to the leftists. Half to the ones who just want to be left the hell alone. We all know which half will ultimately come out on top.

It was ‘dark’ but for all of the logical reasons. Hillary is running for a full throated Obama third term. Next week’s dems convention will be a defense of the 8 years of this administration and will basically break into two categories:

1. It’s sunshine, lollipops and rainbows in this country and we must continue on

2. Those racists, xenophobes want to stop our progress and we must not let that happen

Trump just reminded the american people that they know full well that a lot isn’t well with this country because of this administration policies, we live in dangerous times and to continue on with Hillary is madness. Let’s make America great again

With all due respect, he is the candidate who actually wants to do things, change things...Go to his website and search various positions...There is more detail out there. This was meant to be a vision speech—not a working paper. The speech went nearly an hour as it is.

Hillary wants to continue status quo.

He said he will nominate Justices to the courts in the mold of Scalia who will uphold and respect the Constitution.

Good Enough?

It was sincere; I think there’s no question Trump believes in the greatness of this country and wants to see it back again. I was very pleased to hear him speak of Antonin Scalia and his intention to nominate justices like him. I pray he keeps that promise. The court, and of course immigration, are why he has my vote. I don’t see him as a conservative or someone who will advance conservative social issues, but frankly we don’t have the luxury of quibbling over that right now.
