Ted Cruz would run in 2020 even if Trump is president, RNC official says

CLEVELAND For the first time in 36 years, there was a vote on the floor of a partys nominating convention this past Monday that actually held an element of suspense.
In the hour or so ahead of a vote in which insurgents were attempting to reset the convention rules, Republican National Committee operatives circulated the floor and the back halls of Quicken Loans Arena, buttonholing delegates to argue why they should retract support for the motion, and getting them to sign their names to withdrawal forms. Trump aides, by contrast, bullied delegates with vague and ineffective threats.
In one corner of the arena floor, near CNNs broadcast booth, delegates from the District of Columbia listened to appeals from high-ranking RNC officials.
The RNCs argument to the D.C. delegates boiled down to this: A vote for the rules reset would open the door to Ted Cruz becoming the GOPs nominee four years from now.

and he would lose and be humiliated again...

Cruz’s plan in ‘16 was to be the guy who mastered the back office, inside baseball, delegate counting and control game. And if the primary had ended up closer, maybe that would’ve meant something. But that strategy isn’t one which will work a second time.
Endorsing Trump has no downside for him. His loyalists will still be there for him, ready to support bans on things like sex toys, stores being open on sundays, and skirts above the knees even if he endorses trump. Expectations of him are so so low amongst Trump supporters, that an endorsement might even ingratiate him to the plurality of primary voters.
Not endorsing just seems dumb, and like such a missed opportunity.

I was wondering which Cruz would show up: the “too cute by half” Cruz, the firebrand Cruz, or the douchebag Cruz. It’s been confirmed that Douche Bag Cruz will take the podium.

Did you ever think that perhaps Cruz turned him down? The New York Times is now saying that Trump offered the job to Kasich.

Is he worse than Romney now? It's like he doesn't know how badly he's stinking things up.

If Trump wins, you better bet your @ss Cruz is going to primary him, the RNC official told Yahoo News.
An @ss is a horrible thing to lose.
Think of all the things the buttless can't do.
A safer bet when your posterior is on the line:
Ted Cruz won't win in 2020.
He may not even be in politics by then.

Better check-in with Texans before making such claims.
Texas has a population of over 27 million people.
And I'm willing to bet that a vast majority of those 27 million Texans are not at all thrilled with the fact that Lyin' Ted Cruz LIED (by omission) when he conveniently forgot to mention in 2012 when he was seeking their votes for his U.S. Senate seat that HE WAS A CANADIAN CITIZEN.
Only the most insane and deluded Cruzlim cult followers are still trying to defend that Cuban-Canadian import, and he has proven without a doubt that he *HAS NO HONOR*, and if Texans are proud of anything, it is their individual and collective sense of honor, which Cruz has pissed all over.
They're gonna turf his ass, just you wait and see.

Cruz supporters Frankly, I'm surprised there's still such a thing as a 'Cruz supporter', after all we've witnessed of that man this past year.

Suppose {shudder} Trump loses and Hillary wins.
I seriously doubt there will be an election in 2020.
Or a least an election without a government manipulated outcome.
{Tin foil hat} Cruz is the 2020 government-designated Republican loser to the Committee to Re-Elect the President (CREEP).
To: Rastus
The establishment was blindsided by Trump, but theyre not going to let Cruz find an opening. They pretend to like him because of their hate for Trump, but they hated Cruz first.
Make no mistake, Cruz has always been part of the establishment; he's just an unpopular member due to being generally insufferable.
To: Windflier
I think you misread. I was saying that there are lots of Texans like you on FR.

This story is a lie. There was NO 'vote in which insurgents were attempting to reset the convention rules' This is about a motion to have a roll call vote on the rules instead of a voice vote.
The rules would have passed any way.

How much money do you wanna lose?

Trump should promise to nominate him for SCOTUS, knowing full well his public vetting would destroy him, and the Senate wouldn’t confirm him anyway.
Trump gets to look generous, Cruz goes home empty.
