Some things don’t change... like Democrats nominating economic flakes for high office.

You are right.

I can’t find anything for July 19, 1896... but what’s the significance of 120 years ago?

Anyway, here’s something interesting for July 19, 1870:

The start of the Franco-Prussian War, which led to the unification of Germany by Bismark.

This is purely a trivia thing. If there is interest, I might make this a daily posting.

Ping to look at later. I have a few old CW era Harper’s Weeklies, including the one with the huge Monitor/Merrimack battle engraving. It’s really interesting to look at and read what people were thinking, buying, and selling back then. In one way, so many things are different.

And yet, so many things remain the same.

Thanks. I will try to start posting daily and see how it goes. Maybe include some of the more interesting headlines in the summary section. 1896 was actually a very interesting year for a lot of reasons, not least one of the most important presidential elections in history.

It is interesting, I would give it a periodic click.

But I would be even more very impressed with news from 120 years into the future.

Thirty plus years ago I took a University Course on American History 1860-present.

It was to me fascinating stuff, and these days the revisionist stuff is of course quite offensive. (That Peoples History comes to mind but other works are less known but still popular.)
