Biased news feeds on my iPhone search screen.
Myself | 07/15/2016 | Myself

I've been frustrated by biased news feeds that show up unsolicited on my iPhone when I access my search bar or sometimes when I wake the device up.

I just looked and saw this:

Does anyone know how to shut this off? What really ticks me off is that Apple is pushing this stuff out.

Our fellow Freepers VinceASA and Gaffer have noticed that their iPhones are receiving Notifications News feeds that have a distinctive objectionable Liberal slant lately from the Washington Post and the New York Times but they had never selected any News Subscriptions from those sources in the News App to even get their feeds. I am not getting these feeds or any others as I have not selected any news feeds at all although all my settings are turned on to allow News feeds to go to my Notifications were I subscribed to any. Are any other members of the Apple Ping List noticing a similar influx of objectionable Liberal articles on their Notifications? If so, did you subscribe to The New York Times or Washington Post News feeds? — PING!

Ping!

The latest Apple/Mac/iOS Pings can be found by searching Keyword "ApplePingList" on FreeRepublic's Search.

If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me

All, I am pinging the Apple ping list to inquire in any of them have experienced a push out of subscriptions to these Liberal rags. Let’s see what the others on FR who use iPhones have had happen lately. I know I haven’t nor have the couple of dozen iPhones being managed by me.

Wasn’t trying to be insulting. I got rid of mine a couple months ago. Apple is no longer a tech company but a power crazy beast.

This iphone has been the biggest POS I have ever had the misfortune of using. I begged for a replacement WinPhone (mine got broken) but to no avail. Mine is company issue as well.

I looked at glock rocks’s suggestions in post #14 and the setting was on but it changes noting for me. Tools should be configurable to the way I need them to work - not the other way around.

I don't read the News feed on my iPhone. But I looked at the stories this thread mentions...

And I'll tell you that Google News (news.google.com) has exactly the same Liberal biased articles at the top of its "Top Stories" listing, every time.

So it's not just Apple, or iPhones, it's the whole shooting match.

That's why I get my news from Free Republic. :-)

Yeah, ya gotta sort through a lot of other stuff too. But the news is generally way ahead of the MSM.

I have not experienced any such issue with my iPhone 6.

One issue has been The Weather Chanel program quit working, so I deleted it and downloaded their upgrade-—I do not like it as much as the older one and it is full of ads and lib crap.

I haven’t as yet bothered to see if there is something better available.

One possible replacement for The Weather Channel: NOAA Weather Pro. Costs (as I recall, five bucks) for their basic ap which so far has done nothing at all but show weather forecasts along with a very nice running radar display.

Have yet to see an ad on the thing besides upgrades and additional aps from the same vendor.

That’s what worked for me to make news disappear from the search screen - took the steps in post #14. Took me a couple minutes to figure it out.

iPhone 6S+ btw.

I think what’s key to remember about those news links Siri uses are preselected by Apple/Siri.

From what I tried in the News App settings about links/sources, etc. nothing makes any difference to the Siri Search and Suggestions swipe. They seem to be like the OP snapshot (the sources).

apple (or rather their slave laborers in communist china) make a nice little phone
but politically apple management seems very much communistic themselves

Please take about 10 seconds to research Google and Microsoft's political bias.

And those two companies make phones in some of the same factories that Apple uses; their operations receive no scrutiny.

Yep. I couldn’t figure out how to put the breaking news FR feed on the search page or better yet, the open/password screen ... hmmm...

That would be sweet!

I bought an apple phone this year and when I realized after one day that the battery was draining rapidly I started turning things off including “news” under settings.

Gradually got the battery drain under control but was surprised to see that I was receiving a news story headline and intro when I would swipe right from the home screen. The news sources were a variety of major outlets, ny times, cnn, wa post, etc.

When I followed glock rock’s suggestion in post 14, that did the trick.

If you want to get real frustrated try searching iPhone liberal media.... Good luck. It’s all a puff piece for how great iPhone is. I hate this country now

I used to be able to go to:
Settings/General/Spotlight Search/News > Off

But with the update that no longer works, its like they found out people were doing that and created a work around! Now I go to:
Settings/General/Restrictions/News> OFF

That works!!
