British woman has claimed her shopping trip to Nice was 'spoiled' when a terrorist gunman killed 84 people and seriously injured 50 more after he drove a 25-tonne lorry into crowds celebrating Bastille Day.
The tourist, named as Lucy Nesbitt-Comaskey, told Sky News: 'Maybe this is awful and maybe a bit selfish but it did spoil our shopping trip. 'We bought all this lovely shopping and now I cant be bothered with it. It doesnt mean anything now,' she said.
On Friday morning,Nesbitt-Comaskey issued a grovelling apology for her remarks via Facebook. She claimed that she was understandably 'in shock' at the time after witnessing the horrific events and misspoke while speaking to journalists.

I live in Minneeesnowta-
I had a sales mgr- tell me “why are people canceling
our meetings?”
I said “this is WORSE than the attack on Pearl Harbor!”
she gave me this CLUELESS look- “Pearl Harbor ? “
(BTW- big super LEFTY- non Christian, was fired for
stealing from the company)
The JFK story is as made up as the one attributed to Mrs. Lincoln, where the joke comes from. “Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?”
I heard this live as well, and the young woman/mother was very articulate and informative re last night’s events in Nice.
The shopping thing only came up as a result of the Sky anchor’s line of questioning, and it was obvious (to me) that LN-C was hesitant to delve into it;
no doubt she understood how trivial it seemed.
Similarly, she was just as hesitant/embarrassed mentioning that her needing a trip to the loo is what kept her/friend from being out on that street.
And again, that also arose only as a result of the anchor’s steering her in that direction.
I totally get/agree/participate in ripping the stupid, thoughtless shite that people oft get up to,
but sometimes the knee-jerk condescension via hearsay info in here is discouraging in its own right.
How do you say our travel plans have been affected by ISIS and not sound self-involved?
Your words and actions tell us who you are.
She volunteered this information. She wasn’t being tortured.
I’ll bet her muscles still worked and she could have closed her mouth.
She’s a nitwit.
Yes, I heard that and thought I was imagining it. She may have been the one also who said that she had to go to the loo. What an inconvenience for her.
Journalism at its worst.
Maybe it speaks to a flaw in my character, but I cannot find any empathy for her mis-speak. So her shopping trip was ruined, at least she is alive and not lying mangled in the middle of the street.
But that's just me, warts and all.
You might have a point there. I’ve seen examples in which people seem to be so dazed, so befuddled, by experiencing incidents of great danger and gravity, that their minds seem to retrench to aspects that come across as stultifyingly mundane or self-centered.
Her words do indeed sound horrific. But I think I’m still more put off by the technological lynch-mob that constantly rises up these days to attack these supposed transgressions. 84 people dead by Muzzie scum, and all this anger and offense directed towards some dotty woman who was interviewed?
Seriously. What a self absorbed individual.
Brilliant answer,Doctor!
Lol, that would make sense!
yeah, terrorism can just ruin your day....
Flip side: some people like shopping trips—commerce!—and if hell bound Muslims can mark those off the list, what other perks of civilization can they erase?
Any chance she was in shock.
When my pop died, I was young. Kept babblig about the paper route not being covered during the funeral. Like it mattered!! :)
Could be in a few she will be horrified.
There have been a few other times when my first response was OUTRAGOUSLY selfish only to change rathe drastically as what had happened set in.
It happens because of denial
I never said she was self involved...I said she sounded annoyed. Then I simply concurred with your statement re her being self-absorbed, doc.
Okay,I heard her and thought she was babbling on. I was at my doctor’s and he just got back from Paris; he said that there were no tourists in Paris.I told him that we’ve had to change our travel plans the last few years and that’s just a statement.I understand the reality of what’s happening today.
