A video of a white high school student publicly talking about race has gone viral, but not for the reasons one might expect when they hear the phrase 'privileged white teenager'.
In May, 14-year-old Royce Mann participated in a poetry slam at his private school in Atlanta, Georgia and took home the first place prize for the poem he wrote, which he called White Boy Privilege.
In it, the eighth grader is brutally honest about the ways in which he better off because he isn't black, Asian-American, Native American, or a woman — and signs off with a call to action to change that. Though the video was filmed at the Paideia School in May, it has recently gained momentum online after being posted on YouTube by Royce's mom, Sheri Mann Stewart.
As the clip begins, a fellow student introduces him to the audience, which is made up of other kids and teachers. Royce takes the microphone and announces the name of his poem — leading to a few hushed whispers through the room before he starts.
'Dear women, I’m sorry,' he starts. 'Dear black people, I’m sorry. Dear Asian-Americans, dear Native Americans, dear immigrants who come here seeking a better life, I’m sorry.
'Dear everyone who isn’t a middle or upper class white boy, I’m sorry. I have started life on the top of the ladder while you were born on the first rung.

I saw in several responses that some were “edumacating” that white privilege doesn’t necessarily get you “free” stuff, but means that there was a lack of adversity.
OK...so white people are privileged to not have to endure the crime and violence and general dysfunction that comes with living near other blacks in democrat districts

Given that he has listed his ethnicity as: Caucasian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Mixed, Latin/Hispanic, Native American
And the poem is about White Privilege, I’d say that perhaps this is SJW performance art that is more about class privilage in a nation that has long recognized the contributions of immigrant groups.
The obvious fact is that he did not start anything; did not enjoy an unearned advantage over those whom he patronizes in his opening; and simply does not understand how human progress in a positive direction really works.
Human achievement is a multi-generational process. A few in each generation may leap frog over the slower process; but no one now living--or there forebears over the past few generations, should be apologizing for the position in which a productive lineage has placed them.
The kid is probably not actually retarded--just not focused on how he actually got to the place in society on which he now writes silly gibberish.
And in passing judgment on the teenager's little fantasy pretension, one must also wonder at the journalist, who is presumably somewhat older, but just as juvenile in judgment. (Both might seek a job some day with that epitome of bad journalism, The New York Times.)

This kid is a wannabe in all directions, it seems. He won first prize for a “poem” he may have plagarized, and he is a self-styled “white privilege boy” who is not really white. Why is everyone patting him on the back? He’s right up there with Clock Boy in the fraud department.
Is this kid for real? Is there really such a thing as “white privilege”? Well, if there is then, dammit, they must have run out of it by the time my husband got in line for his whiteness. Nope, he had to actually work hard for all of the things we have by serving his country and getting a college degree. My lovely husband also has the nerve to pay his taxes and be a law abiding citizen....wait a minute. That must mean I have white privilege too, even though I’m black.
