A video of a white high school student publicly talking about race has gone viral, but not for the reasons one might expect when they hear the phrase 'privileged white teenager'.
In May, 14-year-old Royce Mann participated in a poetry slam at his private school in Atlanta, Georgia and took home the first place prize for the poem he wrote, which he called White Boy Privilege.
In it, the eighth grader is brutally honest about the ways in which he better off because he isn't black, Asian-American, Native American, or a woman — and signs off with a call to action to change that. Though the video was filmed at the Paideia School in May, it has recently gained momentum online after being posted on YouTube by Royce's mom, Sheri Mann Stewart.
As the clip begins, a fellow student introduces him to the audience, which is made up of other kids and teachers. Royce takes the microphone and announces the name of his poem — leading to a few hushed whispers through the room before he starts.
'Dear women, I’m sorry,' he starts. 'Dear black people, I’m sorry. Dear Asian-Americans, dear Native Americans, dear immigrants who come here seeking a better life, I’m sorry.
'Dear everyone who isn’t a middle or upper class white boy, I’m sorry. I have started life on the top of the ladder while you were born on the first rung.

My Father did get $3 off the Rent to put the Building Trash out in the back Alley on Trash Day. He probably got the Job because he was White and a WWII Veteran. It was either Affirmative Action because he's Italian or he was the only person who would do it. If that was the top ring of the Ladder, it must have been a Step Stool.

The reality is that since 1968 in the USA, women, minorities, and immigrants have had every academic, economic, and employment opportunity available in the country. The preferences and advantages for white males has been exactly zero, zilch, nada, nothing. Therefore, no white privilege.
Yes — GREAT apology. That should exonerate his “guilt” and make him popular at all the peaceful, integrated #BLM Frat Parties. OH WAIT.
Royce Mann is about as white as George Zimmerman or Barack Obama.
When I was his age, my Father gave me some sage advice that I’ve followed all my Life.
He said, “nobody owes you a living, so shut up and get back to work”.
It served me well for almost 50 Years.

white privilege, if it exists, is never actually described. it’s just assumed as fact and they move on from there.
but what exactly is this ‘privilege’ they speak of? i’m a white male that grew up outside of boston. if anyone had ‘it’, that would be me.
but when i graduated high school, no one gave me college tuition. no one handed me a $250k/yr job. so where is this ‘privilege’???
the ‘privilege’ would be found upon looking at me.
one glance and you know i’m not a criminal and i don’t do drugs. upon further investigation you’d find out i had worked hard for my degrees and the experience they have brought. if you asked, you’d find i worked 2-3 jobs while going to school to pay for those degrees... i’m not a dead beat expecting others to cover my bill.
is this ‘privilege’ white only? hardly. hell, it doesn’t apply to many whites.
but anyone CAN obtain it.... thru hard work and by leading a clean life.

4. America’s early labor force was also stolen
5. White Americans were smallpox blanket distributors
6. You are a potential rapist
7. When you chewed a danish into the shape of a gun, the reason was cuz you were planning a mass-shooting
8. When you asked for brownies that was racial prejudice
WHY are people astonished when the effects of all this plays out in the form of this boy, criticizing himself, like a Khmer Rouge-directed indoctrination session..?
The “privilege” mostly comes from growing up in a stable two-parent (that’s male and female) home.

The making of a self hating white.
He confuses privilege with ability.
One very big reason why blacks and whites cannot peacefully coexist.
Better for each to go their separate way and have separate countries.
