Critics Are Calling Out Disney for Fat-Shaming Polynesians With ‘Moana’ Character

Salesa calls Maui’s depiction “obese,” and thinks children might get the wrong message about their bodies. “The environment our kids grow up in and what they are exposed to have a role to play. Disney movies are very influential on our children. It is great that Moana is the lead. However, it is disappointing that Maui, one of our beloved historical ancestors from hundreds of years ago, who was a very strong man [and] a skilled navigator, is depicted to be so overweight in this kids’ movie.”

My 60 gunner in the Army was Samoan. He carried the M60, ammo, & tripod himself on more than one occasion, and never complained...and he looked a lot like that Disney character.

IIRC, Samoans are the heaviest people on earth, meaning body mass....and yes, they make for great football players...at least the men do...

problem is genetics of course...because these guys come here to play football and marry some skinny little blonde white girl and the kids don't come out as athletic....just saying....

Tongans are HUGE as well....very tall, very muscular..

the only reason I can think that these island nations are this way is because the biggest strongest guy on the island probably passed his seed onto many family branches....

Serious question - were we always a nation of whiners like this or are we just over reporting the whining?

The problem with Barbie Dolls? Their bodies are too perfect.
The problem with Maui? His body is too imperfect.

The problem with the Left? They’re crazy.

Disney should only teach children that boy’s can be girls and it is perfectly normal to have two mommies.

One of the reasons that Polynesians were able to successfully radiate throughout the Pacific is a predisposition for large bodies. The ability to store fat that could be relied on during long voyages is at least partially responsible for the ability to travel the long distances, and the survivors (and the “root-stock” for the various populations) and their large size is evidence. There are more Polynesians as a percentage of their population playing in the NFL than any other ethnic group.

So in London we can’t have attractive people on advertisements because it shames the rest of us, but when Disney puts up a heavy character that denegrates Polynesians.

Political correctness seems to be at war with itself.

How times change.

Anyone recall the derision that Dan Quayle had to endure back in the mid-80’s for noting that a fictional TV character (Murphy Brown) was setting a bad example by having a child out of wedlock?
