A Harvard professor who caused a huge splash when she unveiled a small fragment of papyrus that she said referred to Jesus being married now says it’s likely a forgery.

In 2012, Harvard Divinity School Professor Karen King presented the fragment, which includes the phrase, “Jesus said to them, my wife.”

Since then, other scholars have raised doubts about the fragment’s authenticity. …

Actually it would have been completely within the laws of Moses for Jesus to have been married.

Anything that contradicts Scripture is fake.

It doesn’t matter to me, not does it make a difference in his message.

It's not only a lie but a damn lie.

YES, on MY planet accepted hoaxes and propaganda that attempt to alter Biblical scholarship, endorsed by fake "discoveries" DO make a difference.

The prof might be trying to keep up with those whose agenda drives their understanding of history.]

Many pointy-heads now believe that Jesus was gay and lived in a backward society that did not allow gay marriage.

Yep. Then there is post #24 which would brand us all heretics for even being open to the possibility.

My mind also recalls that Da Vinci Code type film where they discover the skeleton of Jesus during an excavation in Jerusalem and one of the priests can't handle it and dives off a building in suicide.

Sure, the Bible says the tomb was empty on the original Easter morning. But it also records that he tarried with his apostles and other close associates for several days before ascending into heaven. Is it not possible that he abandoned his earthly tabernacle and left his remains behind on or about that time?

Yes, the Bible is silent on the subject. But it also doesn't say that he ever took a dump and I'm reasonably sure he did.

Later than that. Both Cardinal Wolsey (under Henry VIII) and Cardinal Richelieu (under Louis XIII, nearly a century later) were married.

Richelieu was also said to have multiple mistresses and to have spread his seed far and wide.

Wolsey, so far as we know, stuck to one wife and fathered a son and a daughter.

What is sinful about fathering a child within the bounds of holy matrimony? Do you find normal heterosexual intercourse between husband and wife sinful?

According to some scholars I;ve read, If Jesus was considered a rabbi, a teacher, then according to ancient Jewish law, he would have to be married to qualify for that status.

I’m not at all into calling someone a heretic for just having a different opinion-faith and our relationship with God is a very personal matter for us all...

I suppose I was influenced by a couple of college professors who were Jesuits-like my psychology prof who taught to always question the status quo-and being curious, I always have-it has not altered my faith one bit-if my faith could be shaken or changed by Jesus being married, then was my faith all that strong to begin with?

I do think the current pope is at least very near to being apostate-but that doesn’t mean I’m going to leave the Church-there have been apostate popes in history-the Church will survive this one, too...

A co-worker who is Jewish first told me that some 15 years ago-first time I’d heard it, but not the last.

I’ve read that, too-also, Peter-who is considered the 1st pope by Catholics-was married.

Plenty of popes-particularly in the middle ages-were not even close to celibate, even after the 12th century papal bull requiring it-they certainly would have been better off marrying and legitimizing their kids...

Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion …

— Jeremiah 3:14
Jesus was actually already married when He was in the flesh on the earth—to Israel, via the old covenant. His death dissolved that marriage, and the new bride is spiritual Israel, or its firstfruits.

Paul remained unmarried. He was not regarded as unusual among the Pharisees, that is until he was converted.

Not unusual among Pharisees? I would not have expected anyone to make that claim!

I was just looking for that. No woman would ever buy his story about being gone for three days and three nights with a bunch of friends then coming back from the dead.

But Jesus lived under the law perfectly. So it is lawful to marry. That was my point.

Hmmmmm. I think that might be under tradition rather than actual law.

I’m not going to call someone a skank

I have no problem calling a Harvard Skank a Skank. Her motivation was not the furtherance of Christianity. Making claims that have absolutely no basis in fact do not advance Christ.

And according to Jesus’ law, He was married to Israel, until His death on the cross. When resurrected, He set about to prepare His new bride.
