Austin private equity firm Clear View Group has purchased two iconic African American lifestyle magazines from Chicago-based Johnson Publishing in a sale that took place in May, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Ebony, a periodical that has reflected the lives of African Americans since 1945, was a notable influence and observer during the civil-rights movement of the 1960s. Historical images of subjects such as the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali and Lena Horne were not part of the sale.

I hope my rate doesn’t go up.
Jet Magazine was better. Page 42 Hotties? Man....
Those magazines were on the TV show “Mad Men.”
They are buying out Johnson because the mags have a losing subscription rate, so that the private equity group can sell any influence on the remaining membership to the ruling elite for propaganda purposes.
There is a Stock I would never invest in
That’s an insightful thing you said right there.
What about Players? As Chris Rock talked about....
You know if youve noticed, theres no good black dirty magazines. You know, white guys have all the good dirty magazines: Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler...You know, all black guys have is Players magazine, the worst porno mag ever. First of all the pictures arent even in focus, okay, this a bunch of pictures of black girls sittin on the toilet, you know. You know Playboy, you know, the girls are all air brushed. You dont see any marks whatsoever.
You get Players, you know the girls you got stretch marks from the ten kids she had, you see a big bullet wound in her ass.
Both of these were published/printed here until ten years ago when the printing went overseas. The printing plant has been unused since. It was at one time the busiest post office in Mississippi because of the magazines.
Funny how that is reguarly the case. I have seen with my own eyes a young black man utterly ignore about six young black women in provocative dress who were all but draping themselves over him in favor of a young white woman across the street in a skimpy tank top.
Not only was his double-take hilarious to watch, but so were the murderously jealous glares from the ghetto queens because they all knew she had everything they didn’t.
Well, none of those women had his respect, so maybe they all shared something.
