Why should ANY movie be “remade”?
So come up with something as quirky as "Ground Hog Day" and if it has a female cast go for it, I don't care as long as it is good I'll pay the ticket.
"Saint Vincent" with Bill Murrary was the best thing I have seen in years, the rest they put out is darn near garbage...
My gut preference is that a remake solely for a newer, younger audience that's updated and chronology adjusted doesn't work. “The Day the Earth Stood Still” is a good example to me. “Time Machine is another.”
I think where remakes have some value is where there is some production value (like technology) at the time were limited. Godzilla is one example to me - the second being better than the first.
Just because a script is low hanging fruit in that rights, words and story are basically already done is no excuse to pander to the ignorance of youth. Fickle. And most often, something is lost in the update, be it star personality, presence, whatever. One example for me that I think would typify this would be “Gone With the Wind.” Sure, fantastic gimmickry could be worked, but the acting could never be replace IMO.
Not. Even. Redbox.
I have to say. I can’t believe there actually are people who are “mad” at a stupid remake of a funny but stupid movie.
My son says that the general consensus is that movie is going to suck. And we live in Russia!
I love McCarthy. She’s a talented, sassy actress in the old Hollywood tradition. She shouldn’t have lost weight, which was the reason Mike and Molly was cancelled.
Who ya gonna call?
Who gives a ****?
Melissa and the dumpy old women who ‘starred’ in that wretched excuse of a film are all prime examples of women who are making complete fools of themselves in public every time they open their mouths. Try baking a pie, honey.
wrong Melissa, the trailer is crap and you are the least funny person around.... you have no talent and the movie sux, so ofc it is getting panned
The first sentence of the article refers to it as being
‘long awaited’. Oh, yeah? By whom?
I’d not heard of this effort until several months ago, and my immediate reaction was, ‘What’s the point in doing this, especially with a female cast?’
I remember seeing original versions of films - even silly ones like this - and being impacted by their imagination and creativity. Back to the Future and Star Wars are other examples. Sad that inventive material like this turns into derivative money-making and marketing opportunities, especially when they’re tech-ed up with modern spfx & CGI, and injected with liberal pet memes and PC crap, like ‘climate change’ or an LGBT agenda.
Sequels are sometimes less offensive, because they generally represent a continuation of the story, often with many of the principal cast members. But this often goes astray, too. Look at Exorcist 2, or follow the original JAWS through to JAWS 3D.
Barf...
There used to be a slogan, “Because you demanded it!”
I think the slogan to Lady Ghostbusters should be “Because No One Demanded It!”
Which two ‘Busters are in the lesbian relationship? Gotta be in the PC formula.
My life is perfectly fine without Melissa McCarthy. Don’t need to see her movies.
How many times was JRR Tolkien books made for TV were even watchable ?
My objection is typically when they "update" a movie storyline, they include the "homo" reference, the "minority" reference, A Social Justice narrative, when none existed before...
The fact that they didn’t respect the original has guaranteed a short and pitiful stay in the theatres.
Dear Melissa. Not 45. Fifty something. Living in a house I pay for, about 20 miles from Mom. This I can guarantee, you will never see one dime from either of us. Will never see the movie at a theatre or a month later on DVD. You have helped make it an easy decision. Fem on girl, be proud of your flop.
Lol! The scene from the movie at the link looks like a group of po’d feminists. NOPE....not going to pay for this one!
Only morons would care about a remeake of Ghostbusters for starters.
A controversy about which gender should act in the movie is simply beyond belief in any rational society.
