A frog hit by a lawn mower in Mount Isa owes its life to animal lovers who worked to fly it across Queensland for life-saving treatment at a special Cairns frog hospital.
The common green frog was run over in April by a woman who was "very distraught", FrogSafe president Deborah Pergolotti told 9NEWS.
The frog suffered a "deep gash" to his back and the woman called a relative for help, who in turn contacted FrogSafe's Cairns Frog Hospital.
The group then coordinated a rescue effort, enlisting the help of a regional airline and an animal transport company to fly the frog to Cairns.
"We were able to get on the flight on Monday (April 18), and by this stage he had gotten infected,"

FrogSafe offered specialised knowledge about frog rehabilitation and received calls for help from locations across Australia and even internationally.
"We get calls from all over the country, and we've even got a few calls from overseas Indonesia, Italy, the US," she said.
Frog rehabilitation is a specialised area, and many veterinarians do not know much about them because they are not a "standard animal", she said.
"It's still very much a grey area, it's not established enough, there might be a few vets that have an interest but they're not a standard animal that much is known about,"
What’s more stupid, some loon trying to save a frog or the fact that there’s a frog hospital?
Cricky!
It ain’t easy being green......
Clearly, we could all take some tips from anyone enterprising enough to be able to make a living with a frog hospital!
Well. It could have been a prince.
I drove by a veterinarians office in a Minneapolis suburb yesterday that had a sign out front...We treat pet chickens.
I like chickens, especially when they are on the grill covered in bbg sauce, but a frog? Some people are weird.
As long as it’s their money, why care? Might be a stupid use, but who am I to tell other people what to do with their property? You see, I’m not a leftist/progressive. Those are the folks who think they have a right to redistribute my property in whatever manner they think is right. If they have an idea, why...let’s just get everyone to pay for it.
[Might be a stupid use...]
Actually, I haven’t seen a frog or a toad in a long time. The same goes with fireflies, honeybees, and butterflies.
and snakes.
There as a WSJ article a while back about pet chickens. No one knew how to treat them. Vets at chicken farms would kill the sick ones to examine them
"...maybe a dingo nipped your froggie"
When saw th headline, I thought that it meant a Frenchman.
But it seems they're as looney as us nowadays.
LoL!
That’s just wrong!
: )
Our 8 acre farm in Eastern Kansas has all except maybe the honeybees. We have some but not a lot. Lots of frogs, butterflies, fireflies. Also dragonflies, turtles, birds. I’ve only seen one monarch this year which makes me sad. We grow milkweed for them. We even have a sign telling them that we’re a Monarch Way Station but my brother pointed out that it’s in English and since they’re from Mexico they probably don’t understand it.
