No doubt that JFK was hooked due to his back pain.

- propoxyfene (old brand name = Darvocet. This is what Michael Jackson overdosed on)
- buprenorphine
- fentanyl (brand names = Duragesic, Actiq)
Technically, codeine is an opioid, but it is too weak to be a commonly abused substance.
Contrary to others on this thread, this does surprise me. For all of his reputation for weirdness, drugs never seemed to be a part of it. I didn't know him personally, but this seems more of a case of accidental addiction to pain medication rather than being a druggie for the thrill of it. Prince's lyrics were always anti drug.
He did have physical problems with his hips after a long career dancing on stage. By 2009, seven years ago, he was actually singing about needing a hip replacement. That is plenty of time to become addicted to painkillers.
Too bad.

I am more interested in finding out if that career criminal is going to walk away with all the money leaving the sponging relatives out of luck. All it takes is one child. He must have one out there somewhere.
Commercials like that make me think the opioid and heroin addiction levels are really beyond what we suspect they are.

One problem is that the kill shot he got days before would taken out all the drugs in his system causing severe withdrawal. That might have played a part in it.
Although, I don’t rule out suicide. He told people to leave including his chef.

From what I’ve read he had severe problems with his hips and needed replacement surgery. He didn’t have it done because he’s Jehovah’s Witness and the blood transfusion issue.
I think of Rush Limbaugh and I am so thankful he faced his dangers, disappeared for awhile and apparently triumphed, even with total hearing loss as a consequence he was able to return. He sounds healthy and has carried on, settled down with Katherine.
Sorry that Prince didn’t have that determination to battle back, or whatever it was that failed him.
yeah, i heard on the radio just a bit ago that his troubles started with jumping off of raised surfaces on stage with heels on, and that led to various physical troubles then ended in opioid addiction.
Thing is whether a person is anti drug or pro drug or somewhere in between, once you start messing with a substance that is capable of causing an actual physical addiction, that person is traveling down a very hard road.
People that travel this road know what it means to be an absolute slave to a substance. You can’t do anything until that need is met, and then after the need is met, you have just a short time before you have to meet it again.
It owns you, it becomes the only thing that matters.
This is a true hellish existence, and it really is a demon.
You either defeat the demon, or the demon defeats you.
I feel for Prince. I’m not going to make any sort of wise cracks.

I have arthritis pain. I am not doing pain killers. I am trying gin soaked raisins and cutting down on sugar and wheat.
On Youtube there are some videos from his early days. You can search for “Its gonna be a beautiful night” and “Housequake” from the concert film Sign of the Times. It was amazing what he could do dancing in his early days, but it is also easy to see it would catch up with him later physically.
“I wonder if he had a hard time going number 2? It seems all I see on TV commercials is the ad saying, hey, so you’re hooked on drugs and can’t go to the bathroom so here’s some stuff to help you.”

You have actually touched on something very important. I knew we had a tremendous heroin and prescription opiate problem but the point was brought home when I saw the ads you are talking about for the first time.
Those ads run everywhere, but especially on shows watched by housewives, like the chick movie networks. It is hugely expensive to advertise there, so there audience must be tens of millions. This is the first time where major advertisers have specifically gone after drug users as a target audience, as far as I know.
