In 1955, the small Californian firearms company ArmaLite unveiled one of the most defining and influential rifles of the 20th century the AR-10. The hard-hitting rifle would see extensive service in bitter colonial conflicts and provide the basis for the M-16, one of the most iconic rifles of all time.

I grouped tight (back when my eyes still worked) using an HK 91 at 800 meters with iron sights. It’s a very attainable standard.
I don’t consider that extreme.
I was a decent marksman, but not on the shooting team or anything.
I had always assumed it handled more like the AR15 since the butt is not offset downward. An AR with a compensator stays right on target, even with only a flash suppressor it climbs very little.
However, my Sig 716 (AR10) breaks down just like my S&W AR15 (M&P15PC). If I were going into combat and had to choose between the AR10 or the M1A I guess I'd choose the AR10.
You better watch it. There are people here with nothing else to do but jump on posters who double tap (or correct grammar/spelling). One such complained of my double tap a few days ago. I guess some people need something to do when they live in their parents basement/attic.

I see what you did there...
Inadvertant double tap, or on purpose? Because if on purpose, clever and humorous!
Yep, on purpose. Maybe we can draw that poster out that harangued me for accidentally double posting; guess he’s helping Jim to save ink on his pages.
Sarcasm/satire is humanity’s way of saying ‘you big dummie’ (not you, that other guy who’s anal about that).
Like that famous Nebraskan, IronJack says, AK.
While the AR-10 is a most wonderful platform, the AK has about 200 million is service world wide.
Drop it in water, sand whatever, and it will still function.
Inexpensive to where the stupidest mooselimb or poorest Honduran can afford one.
G3/ PTR-91 as well.
I use to be an AK fan, but every one I’ve fired had marginal battle accuracy. I got rid of the one I owned. I still own a Russian SKS which is far more accurate.
AKs are functional and require little upkeep though.
LOL! Well played.
I like my .308 Cetme’
“relative merits of the AK”
Reminds me of a gun writer (cannot remember who, maybe O’Conner or Cooper or ?) who was asked “If you had to go to an unknown planet and could only take one gun, which one would it be?”
His reply, the Ak, not because it is accurate, not because it is nice, but because everytime I pull the trigger, I know it will go bang.
I've heard it said that the Germans make a fine hunting rifle, the Americans make a good battlefield weapon, and the Russians make a rifle that will always go boom.
