You know, I fly commercial two times per month to see my father. He's 85 and a veteran. I'm 50 and a veteran. I now have the indistinct pleasure of standing in line up to 4 hours for a three hour flight. I did not have to do this before 9-11.
Okay, there was a little incident 4 years ago when I asked a TSA agent what made him get a job where he got to touch other men all day...
Nonetheless, before the current administration, the airports did not suck half as bad.
Something has been lost. Something needs to be done. The airports SUCK!
I believe you can apply for an “approved” flyer ticket to avoid that.
Meanwhile....our borders are wide open.
Obama proves his incompetence with both the VA and homeland security.
I am afraid what we’ll see with his other political hires like the gay guy now heading up the army.
4 hours for security and a 3 hour flight.
What’s the drive time?
You need Precheck if you fly that much. Costs 85$ and a short interview.
I’ve found using less busy airports helps. For example, using Sarasota/Bradenton instead of Tampa/St. Pete or Chicago Midway instead of O’Hare.
I have clocked myself at Sarasota/Bradenton at 20 minutes total from rental drop off to check-in to boarding gate.
Flew out of Dulles on Wednesday. No problem, if anything security check was quicker than usual. The bigger question is why is TSA causing these delays at certain airports?
Flew out of IAD Thu 5/26 with a 7:45pm flight. Got there about 6:15 expecting the worst. There was no waiting in the regular TSA security stations whereas Pre Check had quite a few waiting to be serviced. Just my observation, YMMV.
And I fly out of CAK for exactly that reason. Okay, that and the Great Lakes Brewing Co.’s Dortmunder Gold in a vending machine. I’m not driving across the state to SW Florida Regional to clear pre-boarding in a reasonable time. This is ridiculous. I have nowhere near this delay in Frankfurt. Something is seriously wrong.
I am faced with the prospect of a business trip that will require a flight that is 9 hours from start to finish, when you include the connections.
I can't miss this important meeting.
Between the prospect of TSA lines and my last disastrous experience with a canceled flight, I have decided to hop in my car two days before the meeting and drive 28 hours to get there.
The airline industry may as well shut itself down, as far as I'm concerned.
See post 5. It’s a union power grab/work slowdown. Under Reagan, workers in the slowdown would be fired. Under Obama, they’re praised and given raises.
Don’t vote Democrat ever again. They are doing this for the TSAs union.
Re PreCheck. My advantage card will rebate the app fee, so I thought I would take the plunge.
At the end of the online app, you schedule your visit.
Can’t do it. All the time slots at all 4 DFW sites are filled for the next 45 days.
Now, you can do a walk up.....and wait, wait, wait, wait.
I think not.
You know, I’m so pissed off, I looked up Amtrak. It would undeniably take longer, but for the price of a first class airplane ticket, I would have my own sleeper car...and I would at least arrive in a better frame of mind.
I don’t have any faith in Amtrak delivering me there on time, either. LOL.
I have never had an amtrak ride that arrived on time. I went from Chicago to Southern, Il, a three hour trip that was four hours late.
Yes. Pay $85 to overcome government incompetence.
Avoid McCarran Airport (LV)! What a zoo! And that is just the TSA employees!
