ohn Amos isnt known for biting his tongue, and that has been well-documented, especially when his character James was killed off of Good Times. But now that the Roots remake is airing soon, the actor has voiced his opinion about the History Channel series and how hes not sure that itll be as impactful as the original version was.

I guess it will be contingent upon how well its done, but I dont think its gonna have the same impact for a number of reasons, he said. One, the circumstances that Roots was originally shown under was totally different circumstances than today. Today there seems to be tremendously more programming that has black subject matter and black characters, both on the screen and behind the scenes, than it existed with the development of the original. So much time has passed.

Amos also took a swipe at Hollywood and said that the History Channels decision to remake Roots is further evidence, for the most part, that Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. They have to keep going back to whats been done and whats successful because theyre pretty much out of fresh ideas.

You’re right. I’ll say this though - it was a damn good series.
Never watched the first one...wouldn’t watch any remakes.Slavery happened.Slavery was bad...*very* bad.Millions of Northerners (most of them white) died to end slavery.Next issue!
Another- the story of Juan Garrido
One of the black conquistadores who followed Cortez.
The story is fascinating, dramatic, since its got Aztecs, the siege of Tenochtitlan and etc., it would be spectacular. And morally ambiguous, with plenty of drama from flawed men.

They’re constantly into remakes. Then switch main characters to be politically correct. Look at what they did with Ghost Busters, and Wild Wild West, and Annie and McHale’s Navy.
At one time I read Hogan’s Heroes was going to be remade. That was a few years ago though.
I hope it doesn’t happen. It would be as horrid as the ones you brought up.
Dynomite!!
Hollywood has been creatively bankrupt for decades.
They have about 2 dozen scripts that they boilerplate from. They change the names, change some of the dialogue, change locations, and wallah! a new movie or TV show.
I hope they don't remake "The Flying Nun", Sally Fields version. The remake would feature a flying tranny with heavy makeup, ugh.
A McGyver remake series is supposed to be coming in the fall. CBS, IIRC.
As I remember Amos demanded much more money than the producers were willing to pay so he quit and they called his bluff.
As for the new version of ROOTS, this time everyone knows that the slave named “Kunta Kinte” was made up and the villagers in Africa were told what to say. Plus, most all the rest of ROOTS was fiction. But I did enjoy the hell out of it and it got me and lots of others into looking up or own roots.
But I notice in the trailer for the propaganda, I mean History, channel is still promoting the story as non fiction.
Most new movies and TV shows are remakes. For instance, "I Am Legend" with Will Smith, a ripoff of so many versions before it such as the original "The Last Man on Earth" in 1964 with Vincent Price (my favorite) based on the 1954 book "I Am Legend". There were many different versions since 1964 with slight changes of plot and characters. I think there is a current TV series of it.
The first one was false also.
The most original programming seems to be on the web streamers these days. Copper, Marco Polo, House of Cards...
Fox Channel is coming out with a special series based on The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I figured it is an attempt by Fox to key into the tranny media craze.
In this crazy PC world you would think they would have been re-running the original Roots all the time and make all school kids watch it over & over & over every year.
But then you see at the end how Chicken George got his freedom, by becoming a world class Cock fighting trainer.
In the Liberal useful idiot hierarchy, animals out rank Blacks, so Roots has been for the most part censored all these years.
They ruined the show, kinda like how the Dems destroyed the family.
I’ll pass.
MacGyver was tolerable early on but it got too much into SJW plots.
Jimmie Walker is one of the most conservative actors in Hollywood.
The best being Omega Man with Heston.
