Bringing my adopted cat, Jameson, home with me in 2014 was one of the happiest days of my life.
Having to go back to work two days later was one of the worst.
While the rest of the country is hung up on the necessity of maternity leave or even the newly coined meternity one group continues to be overlooked when it comes to paid time off from work: new pet owners.

pets ARE often much better companions than some modern-day families anywaysYou're entitled to your opinion of preferring animals over humans, but that doesn't mean a business owner should pay you to bond with Fifi.
You still want to do it getting paid?
Take some accrued vacation time if the employer offers that benefit.
Forcing employers to pay for Fluffy's indoctrination into your home is simply not a conservative idea.

Thought this was satire. It’s seemingly not. Sigh.

This makes some sense as many young couples seem to be having pets instead of children these days.

We just adopted a 3 year old Golden Retriever and we noticed that it would pee sometime lifting is leg, while other time it pees while squatting. I guess it has an identity dysfunctions. My question is should we apply for special privilege. status and access to both male and female quarter's during its stay at the dog spa while we stay at home and watch. LASSIE

Hey, why not. They should allow leave by how many legs. Cats have twice as many as humans.
To be honest, no one should get any extra days. Period. It’s not fair to the other employees who have to take up the slack. More times than not, the new mother will take her maternity leave and then quit.

When I die, my money goes to cats. Unlike kids; no arguing over anything. Sweet.

If any nutjob employee came to me asking for pet-maternity leave, I'd give it to them -- permanently.

I bond with fish. Me and my new boat need the summer off - paid, of course.

I got a pack of seeds for a vegetable garden. Does that count too? What about a good book - family literary leave?

Good Grief!
I have a little dog who went paralyzed a little over a year ago. 6 months later he had a bleeding tumor (and I mean BLOOD) So I got him operated on. Then his bladder went and he peed blood and is on antibiotics all the time.
It’s like having a baby with fur on it’s butt that barks at ya! I could use some ‘family leave’ lol!
