MAUJE JAWALWADI, India — The teenage girl, dressed in pink, sits in the dirt before six community elders.
In a scene captured on a cellphone video, one of the men wags his finger angrily at her. He rages: This girl must be punished.
A villager ties her waist with rope, holding the other end, and lifts a tree branch into the air. She bows her head. The first lash comes, then another, then another. Ten in all. She lets out a wail.
Eventually the crowd starts murmuring, “Enough, enough,” although nobody moves to stop the beating. Finally, the man throws down his stick. It’s over.
She is 13 years old. Or maybe 15. Her family doesn’t know for sure. She has never set foot in a school and has spent most of her life doing chores at home, occasionally begging for food and performing in her father’s acrobatic show, for which she is given 20 rupees, about 30 cents.
Her crime? Being too scared to tell anyone her father raped her.

I don’t know this for a fact, but these people are at most a generation or two away from being nomads, which makes it almost a sure bet they’re non-caste tribals.<p.
Therefore -— this is my guess -— neither Muslims nor Hindus, but animists.

It is newsworthy because it is so bizarre.
Here the young girl would be treated in a perfectly moral and civil way. First, authorities would force her to undergo an invasive procedure with a rape kit which would re-traumatize her. Then she would be given abortion pills or forced to undergo an abortion if she got pregnant. She would be removed from her home and placed with a homosexual couple. She would get the privilege of a public education where she would no longer be given useless knowledge like basic reading and writing skills, but would learn about social injustice. She would learn that her father’s action are simply what all men do, and she would be recruited to fight for “women’s rights” to stop all non-emasculated men from being able to participate in the political process, or work, or breathe.
they should be put on the human rights council with Saudi Arabia
I would like to see a machine gun stitch a row across the face of her “father” and every one of those tribal “elders”. For their heinous crime against this kid, they don’t deserve to get one minute more elderly. I would then like to see her adopted by a Western family and get an education, poor kid.
OOOO lets bring more of them here! Once they see AMERICA, they will not be so barbaric. Just like in Europe!
