Fine, all those single women can have meternity leave, provided they agree to be sleep deprived and exhausted for the whole six weeks.
Our culture has gone insane. As an old codger all I can do is sit back and be entertained. I have tried to stand against the wave of the zeitgeist for most of my life with predictably unfortunate results.
In that case, men certainly deserve “menternity leave.”
I can understand her frustration. I have a few coworkers in the navy who often play the "I'm a single parent" card that allows them to arrive late, leave early, and take frequent days off.
How about we just do away with paid maternity leave. They aren’t there and aren’t doing the work so why the heck should companies pay for them just because they decided to have a baby? Makes no sense. If you want a baby, do it on your own time. Fine if the company wants to give them time off with their accumulated sick and vacation days but don’t expect the other workers to have to work more to take up the slack.
Well, if you read the first paragraph you’d kind of agree with her. I well remember in the 80s when pregnant and nursing women would leave early, not show up at all and we would have to run around doing all their work for them. They got their paycheck, we got nothing extra. Then, there came the time when some of them dared to make their secretaries mind their kids while they went off to meetings and nail salons. I kid you not.

Fair is fair: child-free guys should get some family time as well.
In an era that is pushing paid maternity leave laws, this is perfect. I just love when liberal ideas implode!
What happened to equal work/equal pay for women and men?
These women simply IDENTIFY as mothers.

One of the most important functions of a woman is to be a mother. The more talented, intelligent, and productive the woman, the more important that she be a mother.
Reminds me of the Aesop Fable of King Log or King Stork. We have made provisions for those who are Mothers, now the non-Mothers feel oppressed by that which they got and want equality. Equity is not desired by the subjective who really want privilege - rather they want equity in outcome rather than opportunity.
In other words, give the idiocracy an inch and they want the mile, paved in gold!
Hubris and narcissism gave birth to self-absorbed. Let’s celebrate.
If a woman adopts a child then many organizations do grant maternity or bonding leave.
Not seeing the problem or drama here so long as there’s a child involved.

I think where there may be some resentment even more so than maternity leave is where others, meaning men and single women, in the workplace are called on more often to either travel or be on call for the company and supervisors tend to call less on women with children. Happens quite a bit at the aerospace company my daughter works for.She is on call more frequently and called on to travel more than her married with children counterparts.
Intel gives you sabbaticals every few years. About the same length. She just needs a new job.
