Nebraska trooper shares unusual tale of pulling over sports car made of wood
Omaha World Herald ^ | 04/29/2016 | Courtney Brummer-Clark

In 28 years with the Nebraska State Patrol, Trooper Bill Price said he's never encountered a car like the one he stopped Thursday afternoon.

The car was completely made of wood. Yes, wood. Cedar to be exact.

No, I was not suggesting that you said anything about Grand Rapids. Was just sharing the concept of Michigan heritage, then thought that GR does not qualify as “northern”.

Throw in some dead Indians and you could inspire the next Doors.

unfortunately, it’s in Milwaukee, and I moved back to Cleveland. Funny story. The owner had it stored in his garage for decades. No engine! One day he went to a Post Office auction of unclaimed goods. And there was an ancient crate that said Bugatti. His factory rebuilt engine had been sitting in that crate in the PO warehouse for decades! He inherited the car from his father.
That’s a betterstory than even a “barn find!”

No license plate or inspection that I can see.

Not street legal so he gets a ticket.

Legal in Michigan. We don't have front license plates or inspection stickers.

The early Fiero also suffered from a very weak powerplant which was addressed within a few years, but in true Pontiac form, they cancelled the car just after they finally got it right.

What killed the Fiero was that a lot of it's running gear (almost the entire front end) was pulled from the Chevette's parts bins. When GM killed the Chevette, they also killed the Fiero due to parts unavailability.

I had an MG Midget years ago, and got a ticket for doing 85 in a 55 zone.

I was hopping mad.

That car could barely reach 80 downhill with the wind at my back and Fred Flinstoning the ground with my feet.

Still got the ticket...

Perhaps its built as a NASCAR project with a concealed roll cage and Kevlar sheeting hidden within the decorative panels?

1976 Toyota corolla SR5 2 Door Hardtop with a 1.6L I4 carbureted delivered a published 75 hp. Tachometer red was 6700 rpm, and engine was only really happy above 3800 rpm. Drive the car and manage the engine (with 5 speed stick) as if it were a Inline 750-4 Honda, and all was well. Topped out somewhere above 110.

H.P. liked it---65 in a 35!

Heh, from an engineering and performance perspective that Corolla probably kicked the butt of any British car that ever rolled off the production line!

But I must say-that MG was a lot of fun to drive, but mechanically and electrically, it sucked.

But it sure was fun to drive! I put about 140K on it...and I loved it as only a young man can love his first car he bought and owned...
