Boston Marathon..Some Interesting Tidbits
self

Posted on 04/14/2016 9:19:58 AM PDT by Gay State Conservative

The Boston Marathon is coming up this Monday.I've lived a 2 minutes walk from the route for years. It's always been a tradition for neighbors to go out at least for a while and watch (and cheer).Just went out today to pick up some milk and saw four copters flying low over the route over a period of about 20 minutes.

Two of them had State Police markings and two had markings that I couldn't make out.I also saw a couple of National Guard Humvees as well as those bright orange markings you see on manhole covers when police have sealed them off so that a bomb won't be planted inside.

Ever since I've lived here the National Guard has been seen helping out the local cops for crowd control. Before the bombing none (that I ever saw,at least) wore sidearms but *every* one that you could see since the bombing has.

They're taking security seriously...that's for sure.

I hope they’ve got trigger locks on their sidearms.

For the safety of the children, of course.

Yeah. Boston’s been done. It would be copycat now. Next will be some other target.

The surviving bomber apologized for the bombing. Said how sorry he was for the suffering he and his brother caused.

Can’t wait for his execution. Then he will descend into hell rather than encounter his 72,virgin playmates.

I try really hard to get excited about such security precautions, but alas, all I see is hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted in a futile effort to make a distance event ‘safe’ from terrorists.

But hey, as a side effect, I’m sure petty theft is down dramatically in the area of the marathon route - so not all the money is going to waste. A shame that the money isn’t being spent on more productive uses like finding and ejecting those who support terrorist organizations. They can start with CAIR.

I was in Boston for the 4th after a cruise last summer and you were on terror alert then.
It’s a serious problem.

By the way I was amazed being from California that you don’t have the Hispanic labor problems with them taking all the service industry jobs yet.

Lots of older citizens with gray hair still able to work. We lost that some time in the 80s. Now you need to speak Spanish even as a citizen to work.
What has been Boston’s secret to avoiding the wave of Hispanics taking all the jobs? Lack of WELFARE?

I was truely amazed. My wife who is Mexican was one of the few I saw in Boston at all.

A lot of talk this year about “scanning for radiation”. I imagine they’ve done that in the past but this year there appears to be special emphasis.

It’s ... interesting.

Perhaps unlike California the huge majority of Spanish speakers around here are Puerto Ricans who, obviously, are US citizens and, therefore, are eligible for every one of our very generous welfare programs (Federal *and* state) as soon as they step off the plane. So they don't provide competition for others wanting low paying jobs as might be the case on the Left Coast

Lack of welfare? You don't know the Gay State very well,do ya? ;-)

CA has over a Third of the whole country’s WELFARE.

I was born in NY, also don’t remember any PRs working either.

But still no illegal invasion has dislodged your Americans from jobs there. Can’t even be said for Hawaii anymore.

Simple.. it is too cold and New Englanders as a group demand a lot for a buck while still valuing time... hence the Boston driver and its evil twin.. a BMW with CT plates..

Mostly the weather... it can still kill you here, summer and winter.

I LOVED our Boston driver. We got a great tour for a few hours and gave a $50 tip.

Maybe sometime I will land their or in NY and take a vacation going by subway either other side as well.

Boston was one of our favorite trips.
Vancouver was another.
Loved Juno Alaska.
Pisa and Rome Italy.
Barcelona Spain was great.
I liked going to Turkey to historic sites years ago, now you can't go IMO.
Venice Italy had great shops but is a toilet.
Africa is beautiful but too dangerous now.

Been through the Caribbean several times and you have to love the beaches and water.

But Boston with it's history and historic sites and buildings was a TOTAL pleasure to visit. I will go back.
