This is the monthly Microsoft Security Bulletin, a.k.a. "Patch Tuesday".
It's another load of patched flaws, many serious including browser vulnerabilities.

Well, strictly speaking, "yesterday", but if you're running Win7 like me it takes a day of waiting to get the damn downloads anyway... *sigh*
I’m still downloading some of the important updates and have a few left to go.
Last time, I didn’t download the Internet Explorer update, because people were saying it’s just advertising/nagging from MS to upgrade to Win10.
KB3146449 does not appear in the list of installed updates for the system as it is integrated into KB3139929.
Now I find that I can’t log onto live.com or hotmail accounts. I wonder if this is related???
I quit updating my Win10 machine after I had to do a restore to re-establish wi-fi connectivity. I still update my Win7 machine that I’m not converting to Win10 for the same reason. Maybe by the time I get a new machine, they’ll have some of the Win10 bugs worked out.
Win10 comes with some nice spyware embedded, but the updates were a mess.
I’m gonna have to opt out of the automatic updates again.
Microsoft’s damn auto-boot did not dismount an encrypted drive before reboot and now the disk is corrupt.
I’ve got a backup of the encryption headers, but now I have to go searching for the thumb drive I put them on.
i tried to apply hte patch to my linux, but it didn’;t take :)
I love windows 7- but decided to take the plunge to linux for my main os for all online work- I run windows 10 in dual boot but don’t allow Internet access- I’ll switch back to windows gladly IF they do away with forced updates and all their spyware/phone home crap- and do away with their aggressive forcing of spyware/phone home stuff-
One annoyance i had with windows 7 was that windows updates took forever (I always did manual updates)- it would just sit there, sit there, and sit there- before the list would even update to the newest updates- then it would drag out for a very long time to download the update- then it would take forever to actually update- and even then sometimes the updates wouldn’t take and it would go into an endless reboot- (fortunately i run RollbackRX which allowed me to do a rollback before windows loads to before the update- )
I don’t know what was wrong with the update- and i wasted many many hours/days trying to find a cure- but couldn’t-
At this point, I am apprehensive about downloading any patches from Microsoft, until I get a good patch by patch description from somebody not affiliated with Microsoft.
Face it, their Windows 10 debacle has ruined their credibility, leaving their users in fear of both Win 10 adware, and gradual modifications of their system that force an unwanted move to Win 10.
I’ve even seen a comment referring to them as “update rapists”.
Just stay away from KB 3035583; Microsoft is still pushing it which will install the Win10 download file on a Win7 or 8.1 machine. Update nags me to install it although I have hidden it several times. MS continues to send it through as a non-optional update.
I went AWOL from MS after Vista came out. I don’t like how MS treats its customers and I don’t like what they did to the Windows interface. I grew tired of all the maintenance that Windows requires to keep it optimized and secure. Over the years I changed from an early MS fan to a severe critic. Linux has been a treat.
I’m in the Slow Ring for Win 10 updates.
I have 2 PC’s with Win 10 and i have had minimal problems with all the updates. One problem i had was with my Radion Video Card not being recognized after an update, but that was it.
I'd consider that a major issue. Not as bad as loss of wifi on a laptop, but enough to cause me to shut down updates.
Maybe after they release Service Pack 2 it will work ok.
I’ve tried three times to install this update, including downloading it again, and each time it finishes with an “unable to install update” screen. I click the “see more” button, it goes to Settings, which says which updates are available, leaving me to start all over again. PITA
Now, I get an alert to “scan drive for errors.” We’ll see where THAT goes.
I’ve had a weird issue where my Lenovo laptop no longer lets me access USB drives, either “thumb” or merely external. They show up in device manager but don’t work. Just started out of the blue a couple of weeks ago and it’s driving me crazy.
Not that it’s a long drive!

I liek linux for the basics- it’s easy- no massive maintanance issue liek with windows, liek you mentioend, and it just works- is fasdt booting, fast shutdown- etc
However, it do not like the complexity of it for more complex issue beyond just using the Internet and email and a few linux programs worth using- that is one area MS has linux beat- Everything just seems to work simply in windows as far as installing programs, installing aps etc- but in linux, very often, I’m left running into an install problem that takes me days, if ever, to figure out (programs not listed in the software management program), and getting specialized software to work is a real frustration at times- You can’t believe the hoops i was going to have to jump through just to get a program i use in Linux mint (mouse gesture program) to work in Debian linux- I gave up- too frustrating and far too complicated- I really wanted to like Debian, but my goodness I wasn’t ready to earn a master’s degree in coding just to get it working like i wanted=-
And he other thing i didn’t like about linux is, and not to poo poo linux, but their programs are crap- Sure, they can suffice, but that’s it- windows programs hoenslty are quite a bit nicer and m uch easier to use in many cases- linux games aren;t very good, and the whole wine thing doesn’t work very well nor do virtual machines for running windows programs which in my opinion are much better than linux ones,)
IF Virtual machines worked better, and i coudl run photoshop with full access to video card power- and everything worked correctly in photoshp and other programs under virtual machine- It would be an absolute no brainer to make the switch to linux and be perfectly happy with it- but as it is, I have to dual boot, and that is a pain
That said- I use linux mint cinnamon for everyday easy stuff like Internet, email, anything related to on line- and do really like the speed and stability and easy updates etc- linux really has come a long way since early days, (It’;s now very easy to set up printers, mice, kerboard,s even adding in components like USB 3 card was a snap) but it’s also got a long way to go to catch up with the true ease of windows and the excellence of many windows programs-
I have not regretted making the switch however to linux as my main os- and the learning curve wasn’t very hard at all for just general stuff- it’s really pretty much a ‘plug and play’ thing for basic computer use- and I’ll be very happy with it for hte basics- but being a photographer, I need the power and polish of pghotoshop and several programs that work exclusively with photoshop- and I do like still playing windows based games from which there are tons to choose from- so for now, I will stick with both- I just won’t allow windows 10 to access itnernet
No clue here, but do the ports work with usb devices (external mouse or keyboard, to charge your cell phone, etc)? In other words, do they just not work with external storage, or are they not working at all?
If it’s a driver issue (which I think my wifi issue was) try restoring to an earlier point, or download the drivers again from Lenovo.
Hmm - googled ‘lenovo usb ports not working’ and I turned up a batch of links, including a youtube.
I’m done with their updates. I bought this computer to use applications. Since Feb 9, security patches have been breaking Corel Video Studio. MS has taken the stance that it isn’t their problem, tough luck.
Many of the patches they apply to Win 7 (and 8.1) are actually for Win 10.
Linux Mint FTW! ;^)
