An Associated Press-GfK Poll released Thursday finds Donald Trump’s “unfavorable” numbers are nearing 70 percent. The AP reports:
Seven in 10 people, including close to half of Republican voters, have an unfavorable view of Trump, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll. It’s an opinion shared by majorities of men and women; young and old; conservatives, moderates and liberals; and whites, Hispanics and blacks a devastatingly broad indictment of the billionaire businessman.
Even in the South, a region where Trump has won GOP primaries decisively, close to 70 percent view him unfavorably. And among whites without a college education, one of Trump’s most loyal voting blocs, 55 percent have a negative opinion.
It’s worth noting that none of the top candidates are above water in this poll. Ted Cruz is at 26-59 and Hillary Clinton is at 40-55. Still, Trump has the highest negatives and those numbers seem to have shifted some time in the last month:
As you can see, Trump’s unfavorable numbers have been hovering in the high 50s since last July. Again, that’s roughly where Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton are now. But the current poll shows a 13 point jump in the “very unfavorable” numbers as well as a 6 point drop in the total favorable numbers. Not surprisingly, the number of people who say they would not vote for Trump also jumped upward in this poll:
What’s not clear is why Trump’s unfavorable numbers are peaking at this moment. Yes, he had a bad week in the media but when hasn’t he had a bad week in the media? It seemed for months that none of his comments or Twitter attacks could damage him, but the poll suggests something has changed recently. Was it the attack on Ted Cruz’s wife that was a bridge too far? Was it his comments on abortion last week? Without knowing what it is that did the damage how can he try to recover?
Respondents to the AP poll even rated Ted Cruz more honest than Trump. Asked if the word “honest” described each candidate, 56 percent said it did not at all describe Trump compared to 36 percent who said the same for Cruz. Trump has taken to calling Cruz “Lyin’ Ted” in public appearances for the past several weeks.
The good news for Trump is that he appears to be crushing both of his rivals in New York, with a Monmouth poll this week showing him breaking 50 percent. A convincing win in his home state could help rally his supporters and maybe give him a chance to turn some of these unfavorable numbers around before the convention.
This AP poll is the height of establishment propaganda. And it's no wonder Trump's negatives are up in the face of this relentless and unprecedented campaign of character assassination against Donald Trump from the Left/Media/Establishment/GOPe.
I'm sure the corrupt powers that be aren't satisfied with only 70%. I'm sure they can push it up a few more points.
Heck, Jesus Christ's negatives would be up in the 50's at this point!
What they don't mention in the way of context is that Hillary's negatives are terrible as well, and that's in spite of all the Left/Mass Media cheerleading for her.
Hillary's negatives will only go up. Trump's will only go down.
A lot can change in 7 months, and it will once the party unifies, instead of its elite elements constantly attacking the party's frontrunner in the most transparently slanted way because they're terrified at the prospect of losing their corrupt hold on power and graft.
So the hysterical hand-wringing GOPe fanboy crowd can just curb their bleating, especially those who have been enthusiastically piling on with the demonization of Mr. Trump themselves.
The Left/Media/GOPe, in an amazing and desperate attempt at self-preservation, find themselves with identical propaganda goals: demonize Donald Trump.
Well, they've all made their bed, and they can sleep in it. They GOPe can unify behind the party nominee, or they can continue with their shenanigans through the GOP convention and beyond.
If their intent really is to elect Hillary rather than surrender their spot at the corrupt federal trough, then so be it.
I, for one, and with the clearest of consciences, will support the only Presidential candidate who is willing to upset the apple cart and crash the Uniparty's mutual aggrandizement orgy...
Ted wrote checks to Carly and Walker.
**********************************
Lie much? Ted does not = Super PACs, who can contribute funds to anyone.
I was just pointing out that BOTH camps are guilty. You were laying all the blame on Trump supporters.
Must be why Trump gets thousands and Cruz 100 @ his rallies. Are you going to believe polls or your lying eyes! LOL
Yeah. I nearly three up when I saw the video. Evidently, it made the folks in Wisconsin want to puke too.
One out of three anyway.
LMAO!!!
“...they pump Trump 24/7.”
You must be seeing something I haven’t seen.
As far as I can discern, they DUMP ON Trump 24/7.
Why in the name of God would Ted’s SuperPac donate to Carly’s? Those donors could donate directly to her SP if they wished to - it didn’t have to go through Cruz’s. And, did you forget that he was paying off Walker’s campaign debt? Talk about dumb and naive - you take the prize. I guess common sense isn’t needed among Cruz supporters. Nope, they just swallow whatever lying Ted says, hook, line and sinker. Dear God - save this country from LIV voters, such as yourself.
Welcome to Free Republic. ................
“its a shame he refuses to take the high road.”
******************************************
Trump doesn’t know how to do so when faced with anyone that opposes or disagrees with him. He immediately goes into the attack/insult mode and begins his disparaging name calling. How would that work for him in dealing with foreign leaders or the Congress? That’s one of the reasons his unfavorable ratings are yuuuuge.
It was not “Ted’s” Super Pac that transferred funds to another Super Pac. They can give money to any candidate or campaign and candidates are not allowed to communicate with them. ...........I don’t know about Cruz paying off Walker’s debts. I thought he just asked people to contribute to doing that. .......Your vitriol and calling me a LIV is very imitative of how Trump responds to anything he dislikes.
>And I was hoping that Trump would be as Conservative as Mitt. But that’s not the case.
Mitt Amnesty Romney conservative? What planet are you living on? And Trump is raging Liberal why has the “consistent” conservative Ted Cruz copied all hist policies.
Hey Rubio - don't pack yet, there's still a chance for you to be the one to give the WH to Hillary. Be sure to thank Cruz and company.
Something more to puke about.
Same poll also had high negatives for Cruz and Clinton. It showed that supposedly Clinton would beat Trump, Cruz, and Sanders, but not Kasich.
Yet no one is voting for Kasich. All polls can be manipulated to show whatever BS point you are trying to feed to the people. This is all an attempt to sway voters.
Sanders won’t get the call. The party will cashier Hillary after the FBI recommends charges and Biden will be installed at the Convention.
RE: Must be why Trump gets thousands and Cruz 100 @ his rallies. Are you going to believe polls or your lying eyes! LOL
I never confuse the NUMBER of people at rallies with REALITY.
Rallies for me, are an indicator of the INTENSITY of his support AMONG HIS SUPPORTERS. Period. It tells me nothing about the number of those who WON’T vote for him.
If it says 70% negative, that still tells us that there are 30% who view him positively. And of these 30%, I am sure there are a huge percentage who will attend his rallies. So yes, that will amount to over 10,000
But hey, it’s still just a percentage of the 30%.
I remember in 2012 when Mitt Romney held a rally at the Red Rocks where the crowds were at capacity and those who wanted to attend had to park MILES AWAY simply to get to the rally.
That was supposed to be a sure sign that Romney had Colorado in the bag.
RESULT IN 2012: Colorado went for Obama.
So much for rallies...
Romney was for self-deportation by cutting off all access to government aid, employment, education, etc. And Romney did not support letting them back into the country after being deported. Contrast that with Trump who wants to expedite their return once they touch down outside the US.
In 2012, Donald Trump described Mitt Romney's approach as "mean-spirited".
