DO NOT VOTE ON THIS THREAD.
This is the nightly DISCUSSION thread for the ongoing 2016 Free Republic Caucus. Per caucus rules, no comments are allowed on the caucus thread itself - hence this open chat thread.
If you'd like to vote in the caucus, please look in the sidebar for the link, or check downthread here.
Thanks, and let 'er rip!

The only way delegates can go to Cruz, is if he subverts the will of the primary voters.
Trump will have been the clear choice of primary and caucus voters.
As I said to you a minute ago, it must be great backing a guy that wants to toss the will of the primary and caucus voters.
I have come to detest Cruz but I hate Hillary, so if Rafael steals the nomination from Mr. Trump with his delegate shenanigans, I will vote against Hillary by voting for Cruz, but that’ll be my entire involvement.
I could change my mind to toward a more active position, dependent on the nastiness of Hillary.
You must do what you must do.
As for me voting for a nominee who used Clintonian and Gore tactics to wrestle the nomination from a man much more qualified, I won’t be joining in to support Ted.
This nation does not need a third George Bush term.
We won’t have another Trump for 30 years, and by then our nation is gone.
We get trump, or the party is over, in at least three different ways.
Lose with Cruz.
I am keeping the faith that Mr. Trump will win at the Convention.
He didn’t enter this race to lose, and most definitely not to Cruz!
Money talks and BS walks.
He can buy delegates.
:)
The DNS issue was pretty huge for a lot of Freepers in TX, FL, and CA. Many of us were locked out of FR until late this afternoon.
I just checked yesterday’s vote total against the prior two days, and it was lower than normal.
Thanks, bud.
If Trump does not get to 1237 before the convention, that means the nominee will be decided at the convention. And besides Cruz’s delegates, there will be hundreds of other non-Trump delegates at the convention. Those delegates will need to go somewhere. If they go to Cruz, that is not “subverting” anything. That is how a convention works.
“I was able to get here using the numerical address about noon today but I couldnt get logged in until about 5 PM.”
Same here. I would have voted, but real life was too busy for me to get to it in time.
Okay, then you would like to spit out the idea that the guy getting 900 delegates deserves the nomination more than the guy getting 1200.
Something like 1600 would not have voted for Cruz.
Something like 1300 would not have voted for Trump.
LOL
That actually makes sense to you.
No wonder you folks need so much help here.
“:^)
If not the fruit, he certainly brought the nuts.
And maybe a few flakes, too.
It sure looks like the totals were down, so it had to be the DNS problems that dampened them. Last night should’ve been a busy one here becuase of wisconsin, but instead, it was slow both in the forum and the voting. It’s gotta be because of the DNS problems.
You better get a new calculator. The one you’re using doesn’t work.
“Poor Ted. He won Wisconsin and went from needing to win 88% of the remaining delegates, to 94% of the remaining delegates.”
Team Cruz went all-in on the contested convention strategy some time ago. It’s the only reason he’s still in it. They’ve known for quite some time that Ted doesn’t have enough voter support to get anywhere near Trump’s totals.
I think it’s despicable that they’re openly employing this strategy, and are willing to seize the crown by essentially disenfranchising the greater number of Republican voters.
If both Trump and Cruz go to the convention with less than a majority of the delegates, then it will be the other delegates who will make the difference. If a strong majority of Rubio, Kasich, Carson, Bush, Fiorina, Huckabee, Paul, and unbound delegates decide they prefer Cruz over Trump, then that will put Cruz over the top and he will be the nominee, and rightly so. If a majority of those other delegates decide they prefer Trump over Cruz, then Trump will be the nominee, and rightly so. That’s how it works. No subverting involved.
“I was very very lucky to get the thread up last night. I found a window of about fifteen minutes and got it up. Then it was spotty from then on.”
You were lucky. When my connection went out, it stayed out, until late today. I couldn’t even let you guys know what was happening, due to the outage.
Glad everything worked out anyway.
GO ESTABLISHMENT, GO ESTABLISHMENT GO!
“We get trump, or the party is over, in at least three different ways.”
That’s the bottom line. It’s either Trump, or something much, much worse. I really hope the American people don’t choose ‘worse’.
Did you see the delegate list in New Jersey?
Chris Christie is on the list
Just made the delegate floor a little more interesting
Trump also just got the big Ocean County Republican endorsement, the vote went 105 Trump, 26 Kasich and 6 Cruz. Ocean County is the reddest county of New Jersey and will decide the primary in June
“...it was slow both in the forum and the voting. Its gotta be because of the DNS problems.”
Yep.
I was able to read, but not post on the forum. I noticed that the traffic for that time of night was slower than normal. Lotta folks were talking about it on the FR Facebook page.
