Philadelphia is officially apologizing to Jackie Robinson for the shameful way he was treated in the City of Brotherly Love.
The City Council passed a resolution Thursday naming April 15 as a day to honor Robinsons achievements and to apologize for the racism he faced while visiting Philadelphia in 1947.

Good.
A little too late.
One of the constitutional amendments on the April ballot is to abolish the Philadelphia traffic court. If only it was to abolish Philadelphia, it would pass overwhelmingly in this part of the Commonwealth.
So 70 years later.......
......will the city give all Black reparations for slavery too?
Why April 15? Was April 1 taken?
April 15 is the day Robinson broke the color barrier by becoming the first black player in Major League Baseball, playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. That is probably why.
I appreciate this action. So much of the history of civil rights and discrimination focuses on the south. But here we see acknowledgement of discrimination having happened in the north.
Back in the 1950's a friend of the family, an electrical engineer, applied for a job at a power company in North Carolina. At the interview he was told (unofficially) that he would not be in consideration for the job because he had a Polish last name.
That power company is still in business. Is my friend due an apology? Was his incident as bad as the ones Jackie Robinson faced? Probably not, but my friend might feel differently.
Its interesting that while we honor Jackie Robinson for integrating baseball, that the numbers of black baseball players has declined sharpely in recent years.
Could someone enlighten me on the purpose that all of these apologies serve?
I don’t get it.
Mistakes were made-——and rectified.
Why all of the apologies-——years later?
.
Even worse that they assumed he was Catholic!
Gimme a BREAK! Our modern liberals are so anxious to out-apologize each other that they now retreat in the distant past to find offenses to apologize for? DemWittery times a hundred! Jackie Robinson was a MAN, he didn’t need liberal nanny “protection”. He destroyed racism and prejudice by his outstanding play on the field!
Can we cede it to New Jersey or Delaware?
Heck, Eagle fans threw snowballs at SANTA CLAUS! Did they ever apologize to Santa?
Doesn’t matter, because they all got coal in their stockings.
When will they apologize to Michael Irvin for cheering his career-ending neck injury?
How many European Americans were victimized by non-European Americans over the past sixty years? When will the apologies be forthcoming? Yeah, I know. Never.
Well, that only took 69 years.
Not just his ability to play a game. But by his CHARACTER. There is a lesson in there somewhere...
