My grandfather was once called a Polock by some Buffalo, New York sanitation workers back in the 1930's.

Back in the 1950's a friend of the family, an electrical engineer, applied for a job at a power company in North Carolina. At the interview he was told (unofficially) that he would not be in consideration for the job because he had a Polish last name.

That power company is still in business. Is my friend due an apology? Was his incident as bad as the ones Jackie Robinson faced? Probably not, but my friend might feel differently.
