And if you want to disguise the fact that earth has oxygen ... "Looks like you're going to need a bigger laser." It works, if the aliens happen to be looking at Earth from directly in front of the laser. A fraction of a degree off dead center and it doesn't work.
So all you need is an infinite number of lasers along the entire surface of the earth pointing in every possible direction.
