Phobos and Deimos would be good intermediate targets before planting colonies on Mars itself.

    And “climate change”.
American space exploration gets a few bucks to buy scale models.

It has been almost 50 years since we first landed on the moon. Not a lot of moon bases have been built in that time.
At this rate, we should have a Mars based up and running in approximately 1,500 years.

Creating a lunar colony in a subteranian opening, capping it and creating an atmosphere inside would be a first step, then follow with hydroponics and power generation.
But oddly enough for reasons I cannot explain, we will not go back to the moon?

I’d say we have a lot more pressing concerns here on earth. If someone wants to put their private money into this then more power to them but we don’t have the money for this.

Darn. I already bought my ticket on ebay.

Too small, very little gravity a man would float off into space if not tethered.

Delay? I was hoping we could send a bunch of BLM, and Soros hired anti-Trump protestors on a free one way vacation. NUTS!

Rumors abound on the internet about why we haven’t been back to the moon.
My personal favorite is that aliens said keep out.

Maybe China will extend a few tourist visas to their Mars colony so that Americans may visit.

So why are we spending on the development of the Orion capsule and launch system which will be obsolete long before we make any real effort to go to Mars? This all sounds like vaporware to keep some contracts running while any real exploration effort will happen elsewhere.

    Would have to be underground.
Anywhere we go in the solar system, we will be permanent cave dwellers.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either satire or opinion. Or both.)
