Running Windows 7. Plugged in my iphone to download some work photos, and an update from Apple popped up to update itunes and video software. I started the download and my AVG business antivirus detected the win32/herz virus and deleted it. Checking on the name and it appears to be a particularly nasty virus.
If any Apple fans on here know how to notify Apple, I'll be glad to send the URL link. It starts with swcdn.apple.com/... and seems to be a legitimate link.
MSI for Win7 is fine, but I’m wondering why tethering an iPhone would cause the prompt for an update for iTunes *and* video drivers. I’m too far away to dig further. I’d let the smart folks st Apple know.
You’re correct for Win updates, and I’m also bothered about the tethering. Apple needs to know.

Just to be certain everything is currently kosher, I would uninstall everything and re-install from a guaranteed Apple installer. At this point, you cannot be certain you haven’t gotten a bogus version from somewhere.
I didn’t say anything about a video driver!

Finally got through. Sent Apple itunes diagnostic and URL of virus found by AVG.

What I like to do is
1-download iTunes installer
2-run it. Let installer update iTunes rather than iTunes update itself.
I had problem once. Maybe Apple fixed the problem.
I got a call back from Apple support. Their engineers would like more details on the Win32/herz virus that I found. Told them to call back next Friday as I’m traveling away from home until then.

Got the call back from Apple this p.m. They wanted the version of my AVG file and wanted to take a look at my “msinfo32” file. After looking at it myself, I didn’t see anything too personal and sent it to them. They will get back to me again after the weekend.
Good news. Msinfo32 tracks changes made to system settings and events, and how Windows reacts to them. The AVG file should show any triggers there as well.
