Had to excerpt this one due to FR guidelines but thought it useful to point out how the Cadbury creme egg was essentially ruined when Cadbury was purchased by U.S. owned Kraft and lower cost ingredients were substituted.

I can no longer eat Cadbury Creme Eggs in any way, shape or form due to my diet but this was a childhood staple for me growing up. I used to look forward to getting a bunch of these at Easter and I would always take the top part off with my teeth and then use my tongue to scoop out the cream inside. I get a little dizzy just thinking about it. Then I'd pop the rest of the chocolate shell into my mouth and wait for the milk chocolate to melt.

Never was a huge fan of traditional Cadbury eggs. I like the ones with chocolate filling, but when Easter rolls around my taste buds are looking for jelly beans, almost exclusively.

Looks like their decision to change ingredients did save themselves from 10 million pounds.

I bought some last year on clearance after Easter.

I distinctly recall thinking they were not as good as I remembered. Not inedible by any means but definitely taste has gone down.

They spoil everything when they change recipes. It also sucks that they’ve taken to reducing the size of products. Over the years I’ve noticed that Dunkin Donuts keeps reducing the size of their donuts. Pretty soon, all that will be left is the hole.

Hershey did something similar. It used to be the best cheap chocolate around, but then they added something called PGPR and started packaging them in plastic, no more tin foil, and they are nauseating.

No more Hersheys here.

I used to love those when I was a kid. Lately, they all have a weird aftertaste. Now I know why.

Probably just as well.

you never change the main product, you create a new product, the -1 whatever etc, and let the market decide

American chocolate seems designed to name people hate to eat it, especially with that nasty butyric acid nonsense.

Did anyone try actually tasting these things before changing the recipe? This is reminiscent on New Coke. You change products without thoroughly testing the public’s acceptance at your own peril.

... when Cadbury was purchased by U.S. owned Kraft ...

I read "Chocolate Wars" (by some Cadbury family member). The book ended with a squeezed-in chapter on the takeover (probably as the book was going to print).

Worth reading if you're a food or history buff. Covers things about Hershey, Mars, Lindt, Nestle, etc, over a period of almost two hundred years, including wars, politics, sociology, government, and so on.

Didn’t they learn anything from the Schlitz family? It is taught in B-school.

I never cared for Cadbury’s. I will though, add Leaf Malted Milk Balls to the list of good things that have been degraded. They haven’t been the same since Herco bought them out - there’s almost no malt flavor.

The crack mini eggs are still the same. Mm, they go on half price sale tomorrow. I call them crack eggs because they may have crack cocaine in them. They are that addictive. I don’t like the goopy creme eggs. But the little crack eggs are It.
