DO NOT VOTE ON THIS THREAD.
This is the nightly DISCUSSION thread for the ongoing 2016 Free Republic Caucus. Per caucus rules, no comments are allowed on the caucus thread itself - hence this open chat thread.
If you'd like to vote in the caucus, please look in the sidebar for the link, or check downthread here.
Thanks, and let 'er rip!

Look at Kasich. He needs 124% of the remaining delegates to clinch the nomination.
Man’s playing games with our electoral system.
One thing I have learned from this ‘caucus’.
It is a disorganized mess where the rules are different, state to state, and the rules can be changed to alter the outcome if it doesn’t please the ruling elite.
Our votes are considered more of a suggestion than an imperative.
“Looks like Cruz got a bump in the votes yesterday.”
The Cruz number seems to bounce between 13% and 20%, depending on how charged up his supporters are on any particular day.
If by open discussion you mean insult and deride, then you have a good reason to defend libbylu.
If you actually see her try to do anything other than that, I would be surprised.
Missouri, for example, won't award the rest of the delegates to Trump or Cruz, because they say they can't finish counting the ballots until April 15.
That does add to the difficulty in determining what the actual counts are.
Cruz will never pull ahead of Trump.
Trump has the massive following. Cruz doesn’t.
Yes, Ted may be able to manipulate things, but I am not convinced that the GOPe will toss the thing to Ted.
Further, Trump played by the rules and amassed the most support.
We can sit here and act as if when everyone pools they all wanted Cruz, but that isn’t true.
Very few wanted the others. Look at the numbers.
For those small groups to prevail over Trump who won the massive support of the people, it isn’t equitable to me.
I don’t care if the GOPe rules allow it, if you think there won’t be an explosion of dissatisfied voters and supporters out here, you’re wrong.
This subverts the will of the people.
Those who voted for Rubio, Kasich, Christie, Carson, Bush, and Fiorina didn’t want a wall on the border. They didn’t want illegals sent home.
How is Ted the rightful owner of their votes, their delegates? No matter the rules, he isn’t what they voted for.
The man with the most votes going in, has the vested interest of the most people. He should prevail. His hard earned support and devotion of his followers should not be subverted.
If five people go into the convention with roughly 400 delegates each, then sure, perhaps a convention determination should be made.
If a person walks into the convention just shy of the 1237, and his nearest competitor is at 900, that isn’t comparative and he should not be required to simply walk away empty handed.
[[It is a bit of a concern, consider that the circumstances of his birth are identical to those of Winston Churchill.
Churchills father was a British subject, his mother was an American citizen and his birth took place outside the United States.. in Britain.
Cruz father was a Cuban citizen, his mother was an American citizen, his birth took place outside the United States..in Canada.
Does anyone think that Winston Churchill was a natural-born American citizen at the time of his birth? [crickets]]]
You do realize that Churchill was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom , you know the country he was born in don’t you?
Yes he is.
He’s not the only one IMO.
Ted knows he can’t get to 1237. It’s the end.
He simply refuses to let Trump have what he worked hard for and earned.
I did notice that Kasich promised to consider a democrat for his veep choice today.
I think he’s actually running to be the veep choice for Hillary.
When you do, remember this. FR is WHAT WE MAKE IT. It will survive as long as posters such as yourself keep participating. Each of us has the opportunity and responsibility to make FR better by being better.
“...according to Jim, FReepers are divided pretty evenly between Trump and Cruz with Trump holding a small lead.”
With all due respect to the boss, there’s simply no evidence for that.
Forget the documented evidence of this caucus (which has been running for over two months), just peruse the comments on any election related thread and note the ratio of Trump vs Cruz comments. Pro-Trump comments far outweigh the number of pro-Cruz comments. It’s not even close anymore.
Did he run for President ?
The Wisconsin primary will be a wild one.
My guess is the Brussels bombings will bump Trump, but we will see. Walker hasn’t endorsed yet, and that could change things a little.
I think it was Newt I heard saying that Trump being pushed to the end would likely keep him sharp and better prepared. It was an interesting take.
When Trump is the GOP nominee, which he shall be, will you promise to leave FR ?
“Ill bet you didnt know she picked that handle as an abbreviation of her full name, libbylunatic.”
I just read some of her opus thread from January of this year. It has almost a thousand replies. Somewhere after post number 700 she finally chimes in on the thread and claims that she’d just noticed a reply in her inbox.
She’s not just a lunatic. She’s a bald faced liar, as well.
