It’s the End of the Line for GOP as We Know It

It’s the End of the Line for GOP as We Know It By JONAH GOLDBERG March 23, 2016

(snip) Nominating Donald Trump will wreck the Republican party as we know it. Over the weekend, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus showed the first public signs of acceptance about what’s in store for the party. He finally acknowledged that the Republican nominee was probably going to be determined on the convention floor in Cleveland. Priebus explained, rightly, that the rules are the rules, and that if Trump can’t secure the required 1,237 delegates before Cleveland, it’s anyone’s game. “This is a delegate-driven process,” he told CNN’s Dana Bash.

“The minority of delegates doesn’t rule for the majority.” Donald Trump Doesn’t Have the Character to Be President Trump’s response to this floor-fight talk was to vomit up the usual word salad. “All I can say is this, I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Trump told ABC’s This Week. “But I will say this, you’re going to have a lot of very unhappy people [if I’m denied the nomination].

And I think, frankly, for the Republicans to disenfranchise all those people because if that happens, they’re not voting and the Republicans lose.” Even through the syntactical fog, Trump’s point is clear: If he can’t reach 1,237, he should get the nomination anyway. Because he is Trump. If that doesn’t happen, his supporters will stay home, defect from the party, riot, or all three.

That's the upside. Unfortunately, the down side is Trump's real belief on just about everything is a Forest Gump box of chocolates. I'm expecting a lot of coconut.

They are also the same news organizations that once before showed Trump in the lead. Then unlike now it was all Hail Caesar. Now its the emperor without clothes, and the polls are bad. This is what is known as classic sour grapes.

Guess Romney, Graham, and Bush see Cruz as a better alternative to the LIBERAL DEMOCRAT and FRAUD...Mr. Trump.

Yes, there will be some folks who won’t vote if Trump is the nominee. Trump has the possibility of pulling enough defections from the other side to still win, while Jeb Cruz does not.

In the short term it will suck mightily if the gop decides to go full retard and deny the frontrunner the nomination. But in the longer term the destruction of the gop will allow a new and better party to emerge from the ashes.

The GOP as we know is a party controlled by neo-con artists and their open-borders toadies. What, exactly, has that party conserved, frankly, I don’t see anything. The neo-con artists have successfully conned the party into thinking that the greatest “conservative value” is sending our sons and now our daughters to die in endless wars in the Middle East.

If that party dies, it would be a blessing. What we need is a party that puts the interests of Americans and America first and foremost, and sends the neo-con artists back to the democrat party from whence they came.

“Sorry but Cruz has sold out to save the GOPe as we know it.”

They will stab Cruz in the back. They aren’t about to let him have the nomination any more than they are Trump.

So you think Romney and the Bush family are real conservatives? They are part of Cruz campaign now so he is what they are!

“If they deny the delegate leader the nomination, the party will be destroyed in the process”

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is true.

The closest thing to a conservative in Washington is Jeff Sessions...and he’s with Trump....

If the status of current illegals is left up to a president Hillary, then W was the last "other than democrat" president. Any democrat president, along with its compliant republicans will see to it that current illegals are made citizens. Those new citizens will vote (democrat) and, as current law permits, they will bring at least 4 new family members to the US to hook up to the America nipple and get their welfare, their obamaphones and subsidized housing in your middle-class neighborhood.

The bottom line is that if anybody sits out this election for any reason, they are doing more than bringing on the end of the Useless Old Party - they are facilitating the objectives of obama to degrade America.

Yes, you’re correct. In the sense that that would be in accordance with whatever rules the gop comes up with this week. But this is politics, and in politics perception is reality.

The perception will be that a cabal of establishment hacks conspired to deny the frontrunner the nomination. And it won’t be too far from reality. End result: millions of Trump supporters sit out the election. Worse, millions of other Trump voters vote for the opposition on the theory that the enemy of my enemy is temporarily useful.

End result: establishment wins the nomination battle, loses the general, and destroys the gop in the process. Good news is we’ll get a new political party in the end.

You're a liar making things up as you go along. Fox and company have had the worst polls this season.

Yup, not only push polls but those polls HAD to be released today before he registers a bump from Brussels (and they will be tossing those polls out).

Not only that, but down-ticket Republicans will lose their seats as well, as the Reagan coalition stays home in disgust. Congress will return under Rat control and I for one wouldn't give a feces.

Trump has brought out the very people that the RNC said they need to get, and yet he's getting pissed on.
