The U.S. Army's chief of staff is searching for alternatives to the multi-year Modular Handgun System effort, to include piggy-backing on Army Special Operations Command's current pistol contract. Gen. Mark Milley has used recent public appearances to criticize federal acquisition guidelines that all services must follow when choosing and purchasing weapons and equipment.

I think 1911 variants are sturdier and feels better in large hands like my Robert Johnsons

But who knows

And yes some sort of safety is paramount I would think

Just looked out of curiosity. The minimum weight for girl combat soldiers is roughly the same weight as 6 rounds for an 81mm mortar.

There’s a reason Glock doesn’t make a Super Custom Match Grade. They don’t need to.

Haha! Exactly right! The 2015 USPSA Production Nationals was won with a Tanfolio, but right behind Stoeger were a bunch of guys shooting Glock 34's, and those guns are competition-ready right out of the box. Well, OK, not the sights, but everything else.

LCP is a fine shooter, but take care that your dis-assembly pin stays in there. Buddy of mine had one that was loose, and when I fired a shot, the slide and recoil spring assembly launched off there and followed the bullet downrange. Not good. But Ruger fixed it, bless them.

I saw ballistic gelatin results of the 185gr all copper DPX rounds, was impressed, for many years i loaded 230gr Gold Dots. My .45acp Corbons are loaded at +P, right around 1040-1070fps. A bit faster than the traditional 830fps of the 230gr ball ammo. And 15 rounds of 185 are lighter than a mag of 230gr lead rounds.

Years ago i even had a 400 Cor Bon barrel in that G21, but reloading was a real bear with those .45acp bottlenecked cases. Went and bought a 10mm Glock instead.

IF....I had to go to battle i might use a 10mm instead, i love those little nuclear bullets! I want one shot drops, and the remains lofted into the stratosphere.

For more concealment like when i don’t want a long nosed gun paranoid to see me carrying i use an old classic Iver Johnson Pony in .380, its a scaled down 1911, just has no grip safety.

80gr Corbon DPX in it.

“Russians use Glocks as well (at least the Spetz do).
So do a host of NATO nations.”

Imagine that? European troops using Euro-crap weapons?

I prefer Glock for my own use, but I practice with it five or more days a week. I admire and respect our military. However, the two do not belong together unless we will vastly expand our firearms training (a good idea, but sadly unlikely to be funded). Go with the 1911, or some other existing, safe design, but the Glock is not the tool of choice for people who do not all have excellent training.

What a nice distraction. A heated debate about pistols instead of candidates!

IMO, the reality of what might be shooting back at our soldiers today dictates a need for a higher capacity and quick reload than you can get from the old, reliable 1911 or any revolver.

Glock is "Euro-crap"? Really. I think the good people of Smyrna, Georgia (US Glock headquarters) would be quite surprised. Plus the scores of LEO departments, government agencies, and top competitive shooters in the US that shoot Glocks.

What an ignorant statement.

And the M45A1s immediately began to experience frame cracks at the 1913 rail.

Grip on the G21 is far too large for most service members.

If the military wants a .45 ACP, they're going to have to go single-stack or long staggered round orientation in the magazine that at best offers only one or two more rounds in the mag.

FN-Herstal and Heckler and Koch offer a DA/SA pistol with a safety that have slightly slimmer grip profiles than the G21. Hk's Hk45C pistol is already adopted by the Navy as the Mk24 Mod 0.

The 38 proved ineffectual against muslim fanatics in the Philippines.

That’s why the .45 was adopted in the first place.

Dude, you practice 5 days a week? So jealous. I practice every weekend I am not shooting a match, and that’s all I can do. I work in a job that does not require proficiency with firearms.

Have you seen the Gen 4? It has replaceable backstraps. Adjustable. Only officers are going to have them, anyway, so they each could fit their own weapon.

For SpecOps? Yes.

For Private Snuffy? Not so sure the lack of a real safety is a real good idea.
