The U.S. Army's chief of staff is searching for alternatives to the multi-year Modular Handgun System effort, to include piggy-backing on Army Special Operations Command's current pistol contract. Gen. Mark Milley has used recent public appearances to criticize federal acquisition guidelines that all services must follow when choosing and purchasing weapons and equipment.

My prefered guns are revolvers. No safety there*. I carry my 1911 and my mustang wrong anyway (according to some). The evil condition 2. I cock as I push forward away from myself toward the target.

*I do have a couple of double action S&W break tops. They have grip safeties. Of course they were make around 1900

Russians use Glocks as well (at least the Spetz do).
So do a host of NATO nations.

First shot was always, and I mean ALWAYS, a flyer. Subsequent shots were fine, but that first one...

It's a training issue. Glocks don't shoot differently on the first shot. LEO armorers would have noticed that by now.

I would go with a 38 revolver

At one time the Army *did* in fact, use a .38 revolver as its sidearm. The Moro Insurrection in the Philippines in the early 1900's demonstrated, in no uncertain terms, the complete inadequacy of this weapon for the role, thus the M1911 .45...

Sorry, got mixed up, you were talking about an SA/DA pistol. Also a training issue...

I use 13 round mags in my G21 and they have +2 extensions, that gives me 15+1 in the chamber. Went with a Lone Wolf tactical length barrel, slightly longer, my carry loads are 185gr Barnes DPX. I went with capacity over my actual favorite gun which is the Sig P220.

My late father had a break-top 38 S&W revolver I would like to get my hands on when my mother passes. But I sure wouldn’t carry it.

It’s a good idea. Hollow-point ammunition allows calibers like 9mm to produce damage like calibers with better terminal ballistics, without the shooter having to endure the greater recoil of the bigger calibers.

Sounds like a good setup on your G21. I love the Lone Wolf stuff; got me one of their barrels for my G22.

15rnd mags are the de-facto standard for 9mm pistols.

Glock 19 is 15 rounds, but Glock 17 is 17 rounds, but both can accept a 33-round mags.

I remember reading a lot of SoF articles during early Afghan and Iraq campaign the spec ops guys hated the Beretta because it had no knockdown power. Multiple documented incidents of Taliban taking an entire clip of Beretta and it goes right through at close range without a knock down.

Thats what i like about Glocks, you can get all sorts of parts, you don’t need to custom fit hardly anything, yet you can get good aftermarket parts easily.

To me the 1911 is a grand design, its like owning a Duesenburg. I love them. But.....

For simplicity the Glock is better.

There’s a reason Glock doesn’t make a Super Custom Match Grade.

They don’t need to.

My break tops? I use mine for pocket pistol side matches at cowboy action shoots. Cool. But not for carry. Not in the 21st century. I like my sons Ruger LCP .380. I might buy one as a replacement for my .380 mustang. Way lighter. Can’t handle the weight like I used to.
Used to pack a redhawk .44 magnum along with carrying a rifle for hunting. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

The Marines ordered 1911’s from Colts MFG.

Ammunition, ammunition, ammunition. 9mm can equal the tissue damage of the .40 or even 45 ACP with the right bullet and powder combo. I have this on good authority: a facial surgeon in my gun club who does surgeries on gunshot wounds to the head.
